Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I really liked "A Great and Terrible Beauty" and "Rebel Angels" but I haven't gotten around to reading "The Sweet Far Thing". (No shoe throwing Emma!)

I will add the whole trilogy (which I hope will be out in paperback by the time my sentence year is up) to my To-get-post-book-ban shelf. :)

message 302: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Since Emma will be buying I Capture The Castle on Valentine's, maybe the 3 of us should read it starting that day? I think that's a great idea!

message 303: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Sorry Fiona!
I have to say, I suspect our t.v. programs are very different than yours, but I watch most of my "t.v." on DVD. I have the series I really like on DVD so I can watch when I want, and a lot of those are from the 70's! How weird is that? Even my kids like to watch with me because they are different enough from what they see today to be entertaining to them.
I have no idea if you have even heard of it, but I just got all 5 seasons of The Incredible Hulk with Bill Bixby for my birthday and am about halfway through season 2. It's my favorite, circa 70's!!

A simpler time, for sure.

message 304: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I have Smallville (I DO NOT watch it on t.v.). I hate waiting each week and then not being able to miss it. I am behind everyone else, but I don't care.

message 305: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I hardly watch any tv... I DVR Heroes every week, but I can't remember when I last watched it.

I want to get CSI:NY on DVD. That would be awesome.

message 306: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I could. But I know they are blugrebrown.

message 307: by Kandice (new)

Kandice He is pretty handsome. I think his eyes look sort of mossy. I don't watch CSI NY, but in other things. Maybe grown, or browgre? I don't see any grey. Very nice, though.

message 308: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Yeah that "gre" in the middle was for green. Only now that you mention grey did I see it as possibly being that.

I think his eyes are really hazel, which explains the color changes. My friend has hazel eyes and they are ALWAYS different. It's crazy! (They were purplish one day and I thought she was wearing contacts, but she wasn't.)

message 309: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments No shoe throwing here Becky! You read the first two! :D

Yes, I think that is an AMAZTASTIC idea to start reading it Feb 14th.

message 310: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Yay! I was totally gonna imitate "Dubya" and dodge the shoe, but I see there is no need. :)

The sure-to-be-AMAZTASTIC "Sweet Far Thing" has now been added to my "Get post book ban" shelf! :)

message 311: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Ah, Rach, I disagree. I really like Signs (was that before or after 6?) loved the Village, but Lady in The Water sucked. Haven't seen the Happening, though.

I have tons of series on DVD. Including your icky old SouthPark! I also have Clone Wars. Told you I was a geek. Brady has already begged me to take him to the Airbender movie, so... we'll be there.

You can't go!!!!!

Good idea, much easier too. Would only have to go straight to one place, now I am rushing to two!!!

less good tv programs=more reading time

message 316: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I am NOT reading that. Smooching and diahrea do not go together in my book!

message 317: by Vicki (new)

Vicki Can I read I Capture The Castle with you then too??? I should have it by then, the person already put it in the mail on paperbackswap.

message 318: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Are we waiting until Valentine's day for (G)Emma? If not, can we at least wait until I finsh Outlander? I can't keep 2 tangled love stories straight. Sc-Fi maybe, love...no.

message 319: by Kandice (new)

Kandice AAAAHHH! That was incredibly gracious:)Thank you bunches.

Yes, waiting until.

Ooh! I'll give it lots of thought! :)

message 322: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) And thank you for the cookie! *munches*

message 323: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) They're more like shallots. Because minions are SWEET! ;)

message 324: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Probably, but they squirm a lot. Very difficult to get in the pan too.

message 325: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Or you could truss them up like a roast and pop them in the oven. Once they're tied they can't squirm and ruin the veggies.

message 326: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I prefer NOT to be cooked!!! You heathens;)

message 327: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Well, that sucks! If I get any input at all...I suppose I prefer to be sauteed with garlic and then dipped in clarified butter! Everything is tasty with garlic and butter! I would certainly want to be enjoyed;)

message 328: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Are you a minion too? If so, we could probably make a main dish! I was thinking I would be relegated to appetizer, or practice food as my children call them!

message 329: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Becky can! I volunteer her! I don't even know if she IS a minion. Or Emma. She can do it, she's sweet.

message 330: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Kandice wrote: "Becky can! I volunteer her! I don't even know if she IS a minion. Or Emma. She can do it, she's sweet."

message 331: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Monions sounds much nicer!

message 332: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Gross! I don't want a stinky old foot to come to mind when you call us!

message 333: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I really feel bad for you guys! I LOVE my dogs, and we have feather everything! Beds, comforters, pillows, you would both be very unhappy in my house. Comfortable, but unhappy! Maybe I could feed you well enough you wouldn't mind. Lace everything with Benadryl?

message 334: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) My mum just got diagnosed with breast, lung and spine cancer. I am 5,000 miles away and no one will tell me anything. Why would the doctors think I was a fake or something? I'm ranting about the terribly superior attitude doctors have. And I'm also asking if anyone knows anything about prognosis and what she can expect (she won't have chemo).

message 335: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Oh no, Petra! That's terrible... I'm so sorry to hear that your mom is sick.

I wish I could help, but unfortunately I know nothing useful in that situation. It's so awful that doctors can be so callous as to refuse to provide information to family. Shameful.

I wish you and your mom all the best and you'll be in my thoughts.

message 336: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I'm sorry as well, Petra. My aunt was also just diagnosed with breast cacner. Will your mother have a masectomy? I know that will not help the others, but that's the route my aunt is taking, and my mother took when she had it 10 years ago. I have a few friends who went through chemo and can understand oyur mothers decision. You will be in my thoughts.

message 337: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Sorry to hear such sad news Petra. I've known several family members who have had cancer, but none that I know of that have refused chemo. I think it depends on the stage of cancer too. I remember seeing on Oprah about a girl who had advanced stage cancer and she said what helped her was clean living, meaning eating plenty of vegetables and cutting all processed food and exercise. She looked really healthy for someone who had 8 tumors. You might want to check Oprah's website for more info on her.

As for the doctor, not sure about the difference in country, but I think your mom can sign papers so that you can have access to records and information. When my mom was sick my mom gave the doctor permission to release her info to me. I basically had his cell phone number on speed dial. Some medical people can be callous, like when I called the hospital once and the nurses refused to give me info. All they had to do was look in her chart but they refused to do so. Anyway, best of luck to you and your mother. If you need to rant and rave you definitely have us to listen to you.

Petra, I assume you talked to your mom and know why she refused chemo. I watched my ex-wife go through chemo and radiation to the point it almost killed her and she finally had to stop and let nature do it's thing.

My Father-in-law, who recently died, refused all treatment for congestive heart failure. He just wanted to enjoy as much time as he could. Some of the treatments the doctors wanted to do were very high risk. He fired one doctor who was too adamant about wanting to implant a pace-maker. He died content.

I have other stories as I'm sure other people do. My sense is that if you support your mom in all her decisions that you'll feel better and so will she.

Is your mom not getting the information either or is she not leveling with you? At some point, she may want to go into hospice care. My two experiences with hospice personnel in different cities is that they will tell you whatever you want to know.

I know it's tough being so far away, I live in Hong Kong and in the last four years have lost a number of people I cared deeply about and was not able to be with them as much as I would have wished.

Here's hoping for the best for you and your mom.

message 342: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments Petra, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I work in healthcare as a receptionist so I know a little about the paperwork. Their should be a form for your mom to sign to say you can see her records and get answers from the Dr. She may have to ask for this form from them.

You and your mom will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Aww Petra. I'm very sorry.

message 344: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I need to rant about the fact that my life is an effing rollercoaster, and I have no control over it.

Moving in, moving out, moving in again, Dad has a girlfriend, Dad doesn't have a girlfriend.

GAHH.

message 345: by Kandice (new)

Kandice (G)Emma, when I was a girl, my parents were divorced. My mom (not my dad) was a serial dater. It was very unsettling to have her bring home a different guy every other week. I have to say, the man she ended up with is pretty perfect, though, so worth the wait! I feel for you.

message 346: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Thanks Kandice. :)

Well, dad has only had one girlfriend since the divorce, but they kept on breaking up and getting back together. We moved in with her and her kids two months ago, and now we're moving out.

I had how he has to drag me into the rollercoaster. Hate. It.

message 347: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Oh, that seems much worse. My mom's boyfriends would spend the night on occasion, but we never lived with any of them. Until this one. I would think the kids would make it much harder too. Weird, it never occurred to me how strange it was that NONE of her boyfriends had kids of their own.

message 348: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Hmm.

2008 was really hard for me, I had divorce, with my dad cheating with the former girlfriend I'm talking about, and everything else, I was moving on, this WASN'T going to be a transitional year.

But, because my father is my father, it will be.

Thank god I have rountine and safety with my mother. I don't know what I would do without her.

message 349: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Well, my parents divorce was because of his affair with his secretary, but they ended up married just a few days after it became final and are still together today! 36 years later. So, in a strange way, HE was my stability as a child.
I know what you mean "But, because my father is my father, it will be." I am all about filial loyalty. I'm sure it will all work out. (eventually)

message 350: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Thanks Kandice.

Well, I know it will DEFINITELY work out when I'm eighteen. ;)

I'm planning to change my last name. Emma Doyle anyone? :D
