I suspect that's exactly what he got me! I guess I should be thankful he still wants me to wear F-Me pumps after 21 years!!!!

message 252: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I'm sorry about your ocmputer Fiona. I am horrible with electronics, so generally just quit when I have trouble! At leave you have stick-to-it-ness!

And yes, I am quite lucky!!!! It will do me well to remember that the next time I walk into a wrecked living room, t.v. on, homework not done, and dad and kids draped over various pieces of furninture, wondering what's for dinner!!! ;) (oh! but not tonight!)

message 253: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I need to rant about the fact that I NEED TO BUY BOOKS.

I Capture the Castle, Potato Society, Tamora Pierce books, more copies of TGDT so I can hand them out with coded messages and my goodreads account name.

CALLING. ME.

message 254: by Kandice (new)

Kandice WHAT??!!! I don't understand (G)Emma. *handing emu chocolate carrot* (just so you know I pay attention;)

message 257: by Kandice (new)

Kandice You are reminding me of Gollum!!!! Was that your intention?

"coded messages and my goodreads account name."

This is the part I don't get.

rachel, I know it isn't the same but since my boyfriend worked for four months on a cruise ship and there were three of those months somewhere around America, Puerta vallarta and so on....well I just don't want him to be away from me for longer than a day anymore. About a month ago he had to go for a super fast visit to his place in Italy. It was like tuesday afternoon he left and thursday evening he was back. But I almost didn't manage.... I couldn't go with him but it was awful. Before he would even take holiday and go to Italy on his own when i couldn't but now I jsut don't alow him anymore. The experience of knowing (or not knowing actually) where he was somewhere in the ocean, around a different continent, constantly moving on the water......no more.

My boyfriend is Italian adn doesn't do anything so that the image of Italians and fashion wouldn't be true. He is very good in it but..well I have never been into fashion. I would open my wardrobe and just take what I felt like wearing. My favourite clothes would be casual and sportive.
When I need elegant clothes for work, I used to freak out. I also want everything simple..... the mix of his knowledge and knowing that I am not a lover of elegant clothes(even if it got better)and want thinks simple...well it does help me often. But he knows the ebst thing is just give me books when he wants to give a present.
You know that hs sister used to ask him to go shopping with her because he wouldn't mind walking around for hours and watch everything she tried on and give an honest opinion about it?????? If it isn't books or sport clothes shops, i am bored after an hour of shopping.

Chapters isn't calling you!!! It is you calling your voucher or card!!!! Put it faaaar away and keep doing as well as you were!!! You can do it!!!

message 262: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Jeane-I think it's lovely to feel that way about your partner! Makes you feel special and lucky you found each other.
My only experience with absence, was when we did our house addition last year. My husband sent my children and I to spend 6 weeks at my mom's lake cabin. I did not anticipate this, but I would miss him so much sometimes, I would feel like crying! There's no phone there, so calls had to be planned, and it made me appreciate our relationship much more than I had.

I guess it's tru that absence makes a heart grow fonder. If not, something may be amiss;)

Those four months I was home in belgium and it were the most awful months of my life!

message 264: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I think super long times apart are harder because we are constantly changing as people. You come back to as and to a different spouse! Not the same thing, I know, but my youngest brother and I were very, very close up until about 5 years ago. We spent a few weeks together last year, and I left wanting to spank him! He had been such a bright, responsible, sweet boy. Life had canged him into a bitter, grouchy, foul mouthed young man! Of course I still love him, but like?.... That's a hard one!

message 265: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Oh, that.

I mean about TGDT so the whole universe can read it! I would send stickeys and be all:

"What do you think of Gemma? Who is she? Who is Circe? What does this world mean?" And be all cryptic.

message 266: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments The library could work, but I'd have more motivation if I bought it. :D

message 267: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments True.....

because then I will be all:

"MUST. BUY. MORE BOOKS. MUST. READ. OWNED. BOOKS. FIRST."

message 268: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I will look for I Capture the Castle, and let you know as soon as I read it, okay? It's not a kissing book, right?

message 269: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments It sounds awesome.

Fi, that's exactly why I need to buy it! So I will read it sooner!

message 270: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Emma, read all the books you ahve or a lot of them and then you can buy it without feeling guilty!!!

message 271: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments True....it would take me all year though.

Plus the rereading.....

message 272: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I adore stories with castles, as long as there isn't too much kissing! There's a book I read when I was about 11, set in Scotland ( I think) with lots of castles, lords, ladies, wealth, poverty, marrying for money... I have read it maybe 15 times. I bet you would like it.
Wild Cat Laura Black

Oh! But I am NOT encouraging a purchase! I mean in the future...

message 273: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I would like it? The Emu would like it or the cartoon bird would like it? I'll put it on my to-reads list.

HAH Fi, you're such a book pusher!

*sniffs* I'm so proud.

message 274: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I GET that!!!! I promise I will look for it!

message 275: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I think EVERYONE would like it! It's not a challenge though, so don't go looking for that! There is a bit of a mystery, dialects, muted action, humor, not too long.... I LOVE this book! My copy is in tatters and I will never give it up.

message 276: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Well, I am NOT a nudger, I push, I push so hard people fall on the ground and then they go to the book store with scrapes on their knees.

message 277: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments True, I kick and kick and kick...

BUT IT WORKS.

With most of them anyways.

Although your strategy works too. It's just not my style. I'm pushy.

message 278: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments No I'm not bossy,

I'm pushy AND bossy.

message 279: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Don't Emus spit, too? I would follow your suggestion to keep from being spit on!

It's about a family of wealth. The father is an inventor, (1 daughter, Catriona) who fritters away all their money on his inventions with the doting encouragement of his frail wife. Their daughter is then left pretty much unmarriable. She does end up marrying an incredibly wealthy man that falls head over heels in love with her and seems the answer to her families prayers.
But, is he? Or does he have ulterior motives not apparent due to the sparkle of all that money in their eyes?
I don't want to spoil, so I wont say why, but she ends up running away and posing as a stable boy in her families old castle.

message 280: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments IN-TER-ESTing......

It sounds like my type of book.

message 281: by Kandice (new)

Kandice No! There is only a little romance in the beginning when the rich guy woos her, then she immediately runs away. That's the real story! Then the last few pages are romancy because she actually falls in love. That's it, the rest is castles, sneaking, hiding, lying, cheating and what not.

I didn't know it wasn't available. Now I'll have to be more careful with my copy!

message 282: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I just watched a Nerdfighter video talking about the hard times in book publishing:

I JUST WANT TO HELP JOHN. *runs to Chapters*

message 283: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments How about I Capture the Castle AND Potato Society?

Eh???

message 284: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Than I can get another copy of AGATB and put it in some awesome place!

Or I could do that with a copy of AGATB in the library, and put a stickey in it.

message 285: by Vicki (new)

Vicki I think the need to rant thread has turned into the I-Must-Not-Buy-Any-More-Books thread.. I got confused for a moment. At any rate, I think I am going to get myself a copy of I Capture The Castle.

message 286: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Vicki, blame me.

Just one....

message 287: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Okay....TO THE I MUST NOT BUY ANY MORE BOOKS THREAD.

message 288: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Lori doesn't care about this thread as long as we don't SPAM!
I'm so silly I didn't know what that meant until I read the SPAMMERs Circle in Hell.

message 289: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments True....

She's not in labor, haha. Sorry, it was just my first thought.

message 291: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I have not vowed to not buy more books, Fiona, and Brady just called me at work to ask me to take him to Borders tonight, so I will be looking for I Capture the Castle! I ownt be able to read it until I finish Outlander though, and that is super long!!!!

Little Hedgemu, please refresh my memory AGATB?

message 292: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I'm sorry Fiona!!!! I'm hitting the dusty trail.

message 293: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments We do tend to seep into other threads, don't we?

And Kandice, AGATB=A Great and Terrible Beauty.

message 294: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray, a part of The Gemma Doyle Trilogy, my favorite trilogy of all time and it is absolutely AMAZTASTIC.

Buy it when you go to Borders!

(Oh no, I see a fight between Fi and I over your Borders trip in the near future...)

Vicki Fiona wrote: "Vicki wrote: "I think the need to rant thread has turned into the I-Must-Not-Buy-Any-More-Books thread.. I got confused for a moment. At any rate, I think I am going to get myself a copy of I Captu..."

No Need to apologize. I was never intending on abstaining from buying books. I admit to having no will power. Just need to wish harder for the room full of bookshelves :)

message 296: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I have decided to compromise:

On Feb 14, I will buy myself ONE book, this is in honor that I bought TSFT for myself on that exact date a year ago.

I'm sort of obsessed.

Ahem.

And that one book will be....

I Capture the Castle.

message 297: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments No, I'm planning to love it. :D I'm sure I will.

This will also help me gulit trip you into re-reading AGATB.

Did I just say that?? ;D

*hugs back*

message 298: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments :D

Also, a few arguments for your argument against it:

Gemma was from India. Her father treated her mother as an equal. She wasn't used to seeing women treated as inferior.

message 299: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Truee...but the most experience she has had is the relationship between her mother and father.

You see my logic?

Just saying. Anyways, I will get down on my knees and BEG and give you cookie, and read all the books you want me to read, for you to read TGDT.

message 300: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments That's what I felt like right after I finished TSFT.

And then I read Twilight.

HATE. IT.
