Koori no hi ok i tend to make up stories in first person so usually my main character is a kind of alter ego of myself. this wouldn't be a problem, except that i have trouble with side character development. the characters all seem to have the same personality.
Help Me!!

Riley (booksarecool) Hmmmmm... I used to have this problem too, and I still do, but with a variation. Quite a few of my characters in one story will act just like a character in another story.

Here's my tip:
Make a list of all the things that make your characters seem the same. For example: "Sarcastic, stubborn, etc." Then make a list of things that are opposite to them, and things that are sort of in between. "Sincere, complying, etc." Then circle the ones you want your character to be like. And if that doesn't work, try writing alternate stories, where your main character is the exact opposite of what (s)he really is, if that makes sense. In other words, make another story where your MC (main character) acts completely different.

Good luck!

Koori no hi thanks those are great ideas!

Riley (booksarecool) It's just because I've had to work through it so many times. Ironically, the ones where my MC acts completely different are the best ones.
