Is it good to be reading a book that you really really really don't like?

I'm reading "In the Time of the Butterflies" but I really don't like this book. Is it o k to continue on or is it bad?

No it's not good cuz you wanna enjoy what your reading, not to make you suffer.

I'm going to weigh in and say no. If you're reading a book, by yourself, that you really, really, really don't like, then stop. Don't ruin the experience of reading! There are so many incredible books to read, and we just don't have enough time to waste on bad books. I will say that sometimes your teachers will choose books to read together, and at first, you may not like them, but give them a chance. There's a reason that we share certain books with you. Of course, my 12th grade AP English teacher made us read "The Adventures of Augie March" and I still don't know why. It was awful. I failed at understanding. Ugh. There are some books that are just like that, but don't read them on your own. read what you love. Read what excites you. Read what motivates you. Fall deeply in love with reading. Crush hard on reading. It will be the greatest gift you give yourself.

I completely agree with Ms.Douglas! I think you shouldn't read a book that you don't enjoy because you want a book that can give you a pleasant time and not making it a hassle. Reading should also be done often because not only it can make you knowledgeable on certain topics, prepare you for college and career readiness (and much more, such as employment), etc., but it can make it a fascinating lifelong activity which is a good thing prior to the benefits such as the ones listed above. That is why I say that reading a book that is boring to you is a bad decision. However, reading books that is not necessarily "bad", can increase your vocabulary, provide much more imagination and deeper divergent thinking... So at the end, the choice is really up to you!
