Anyone else getting a kind of Discworld feel to it? I am still only 1/5 done with the book

Insofar as it is clearly leaning on other media for its world-building and that it's deliberately subverting those influences, sure. But otherwise, no. Pratchett and Grossman are very different prose stylists and narrative-constructionists. Colour of Magic is also actually funny - I smile and laugh at it - rather than the sort of malaise-soaked nodding Magicians is supposed to induce.
I agree, I actually thought looking at some of the other threads that I saw a parallel - in that the Colour of Magic is essentially a satire on fantasy tropes played for laughs, whereas the Magicians is a satire played for derision/ridicule with no real humour whatsoever. So the difference between laughing with the genre vs laughing AT the genre.I'm definitely in the camp of preferring the discworld version of satire.....
