Thought I'd resurrect this thread. I love reading the first lines of books. So what's the first line of the book you're reading?

Before there was anything, there was the dream.

That's absolutely brilliant, too. Your shelves always make me giggle; knickers in a twist..? LOL!

The utter and absolute darkness smothered the tiny raft, totally disorienting the two half-conscious passengers.

Bound by the Heart by Marsha Canham

I have a tendency of letting a book lay unread for few days after I start, if I miss the characters, I'll start again. :] These two are coming up fast in my ole heart! You know, when Summer and her brother were floating about the ocean on that tiny raft and he started panicking about slithering things below them, then the moment Captain Morgan Wade rescues them, my imagination must have been ultra-sensitive, because all sorts of foreign, abyssal creatures dragging them to the bottom of the ocean, took shape in my mind. LOL

I remember that first scene! She set the scene awesomely right out of the gate. Usually I don't recall the little things, but the way that opening scene was described, it burned into my memory. :)
