Michael (knowledgelost) Do you use Twitter?

How do you use your twitter profile?

What are the advantages/disadvantages?

message 2: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) Twitter is my favourite of all the social media, I use it the most. Normally I talk about everything but I do talk about books often too.

I even live tweeted a book recently just to see how well it would go.

@knowledgelost

Anika Claire (angelya) | 24 comments I love twitter. I'm kind of addicted to it - have been for a couple of years now :) I originally started using it to tweet about my world of warcraft blog and it was so great at promoting that I created a separate one for my book blog!

Shelleyrae at Book'd Out | 99 comments I don't use it as much as I should but I do check in most days

I use to have two twitter accounts, a personal one and my blog one but I combined it into the one because I like the personal interaction you get on twitter, and it just made it easier for me to manage

Bree T (breeza82) | 9 comments I love using Twitter, I find it extremely helpful for connecting with other bookish people, be they bloggers, authors, publishers, etc. I spend far too much time on there really... lol. But I'm a SAHM so adult conversation is often only found on Twitter!

I am href="https://twitter.com/#!/1girl2manybook... @1girl2manybooks there.

Marg (margreads) | 23 comments I resisted joining Twitter for a long time, but once I was there I loved it! I have cut back a little bit compared to what I was doing but still check in a couple of times a day!

If anyone is interested in joining in on a regular bookish chat, #spbkchat runs every Thursday night from 8pm Australian Eastern Time. Generally there is a specific topic that we chat about.

I am @margreads on Twitter

Sally906 I am on twitter - I am more of a receiver than a sender. I Very eclectic in who I follow - and unfollow on a whim. I was getting some very strange people following me and didn't want people to think I condoned what they were touting. Don't know how to stop people following if I don't want them to so that is a disadvantage.

I have my goodreads updates tweeted and blog updates and I retweet stuff to. Quite boring really :)

Oh I am @sally906

If you set your twitter feed to private you can approve your followers

Jenna I am addicted to twitter. @Bookish_Belle

Lisa (lisao_0) LOVE Twitter <3 I live my life on Twitter and I hope there is Twitter after death too.

Sally906 Those of you who follow many - how do you ensure you don't miss anything vital among the reams of twitters?

I must confess I am only on twice, maybe 3 times a day - but have missed some alerts as they get buried :)

Michael (knowledgelost) I have to use lists. I have a private list which is of essential readings and I only have my favourite tweeters on there. I have an Australian Book Bloggers list now of all you tweeters.

Also Instapaper is great for saving links to read later

Marg (margreads) | 23 comments To be honest Sally, I see what I see. If things happen during the night, I just miss them unless someone happens to mention it. If I went back through all the tweets I would have no time for anything else.

If there are people you don't want to follow you then you can block them easily - I do it for people tweeting house insurance etc
Click on their name, look for the portrait symbol, click for the drop down menu and choose Block

Wise advice :)

Michael (knowledgelost) Do you think @ing a publisher on twitter informing them of your book review is a good way to get noticed? And would you mention the Australian publisher or the American one or both if it's an ARC from Netgalley?

Philippa (Tea in the Treetops) (teadaydreamsandfairytales) | 9 comments I often @ the author have to admit I hasn't thought of doing the publisher!

message 19: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I try to @ the author too; if it's a positive review and I can find them. But I've been retweeted by the publisher a few times; not sure if they read them

message 20: by Bree (new)

Bree T (breeza82) | 9 comments If it's a review book, I do tend to @ the publisher usually just for a re-tweet as usually they have a high number of followers. However I email the relevant publicist with a direct link to my review. Some publishers are better than others at retweeting you! If it's a library book, I don't always bother. Most of the publishers that send me stuff for review have found me and emailed me, querying if I'd like XYZ book and if so, could I devote some blog space to it. There's one publisher I emailed requesting review copies and they just send me everything they are publishing. Another publisher sends me a catalogue and tells me to choose whatever I like and then just mails it out.

I'm guessing it was twitter that led some of the publishers to my blog via me tweeting some reviews @ their twitter account so I think it definitely can be helpful. I can't think of how else some of them might have found me and contacted me. I've been blogging 2 years though and only been in contact with publishers and publicists for the last 3-4 months.

Sherri (fabledhattress) | 60 comments Wow, twitter is huge. Lol though I honestly never really liked using twitter *shrugs* but I don't know why.

message 22: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I honestly think it's a requirement for a blogger to use twitter

message 23: by Sherri (new)

Sherri (fabledhattress) | 60 comments Oh? Lol, well Twitter failed to ensnare me, so I don't know if it's for every blogger, plus, how would I use it for my blog? O.o Aren't they limited tweets or something?

message 24: by Raelke (new)

Raelke Grimmer | 9 comments I only recently joined Twitter and I'm still getting used to it, but I must admit I do enjoy using it. Many of my followers on Twitter don't follow my blog, so I tweet new blog posts in case someone decides to have a look.

message 25: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) It's a great way to network with book bloggers, publishers and authors

message 26: by Stefanie (new)

Stefanie London (stefanielondon) I love Twitter - although I have to limit myself otherwise it can suck up many hours of your life! It's a great way to get instantaneous connection with other bloggers, readers, authors and publishers - definitely handy! It also makes the solitary process of blogging and writing that little bit more social :)

I'm at @HnBBlog if anyone is interested in chatting about books or blogging (or anything really, I just like to talk haha)
