This book was just awesome, the only thing I cannot really grab is why and how Katniss became a fire mutt? Sure the bomb went of but what exactly happened?

"but even Benia can't conceal her shock at my ravaged mutt body"In chapter 26 when they prep her for snows execution.
"I see a distorted image of one of Peeta's hands. The burn marks. We are both fire mutts now."
Also chapter 26 where Coin is revealing that she want to have a last round of hunger games.
Hey even through this was posted a while ago I’m going go into a bit. In first book THG Peeta and Katniss both identified their main goals. Katniss’s main goal was to protect her sister (the reason she volunteered) and Peeta to remain himself (which is to be hesitant to kill, try to put other people (or Katniss) before himself and always be kind). However, both Katniss and peeta failed at there goals. Peeta fails at his goal in chapter 13 of MJ and realizes that he does in chapter 21. Katniss fails at her goal in chapter 25. So here’s the main problem here is that neither of them are supposed to still be alive. Katniss thought she might die in THG for her sister and peeta was planning to die for Katniss in THG in hopes she will make it back. But they both win. In Cf arena, Katniss goes in to keep peeta alive, peeta for Katniss (they both think it’s unlikely that either of them will live) but they were reaped, foiled, survived again. So now they hit a third arena. In chapter 21 here’s what peeta realizes, that 1. He’s become a monster, mutt, a piece in their games. 2. That this has happened before, he’s not supposed to be alive. But the squad doesn’t let him die here. But technically he does/ he did. His first death in MJ is a metaphorical death were his personality is removed. Which returns pretty quickly after he’s seen himself on screen. But he technically needs a second death in MJ and last death (he has a death in each book) in the trilogy. This death is again metaphorical, along with Katniss death. They weren’t supposed to survive this long, they weren’t supposed to fail at their goals. So the parachutes burn them so badly that they are ‘reborn’ into fire mutts which in the saddest way possible, frees them of their obligations. Now the only thing is to move forward.
