Titanic: Is it just me, or is the ending unbearable?

Yeah, I'm like saying out loud, "Get in the boat! Get in the boat!"

I wondered about that, too!

I knew going into it they both wouldn't survive and that should have told me not to watch it.

I think a lot of people confuse "romance" with "romantic." I'm constantly being recommended books and movies by non-romance readers that are simply romantic (often with tragic endings). I can tolerate--but never love--a movie with a less than happy ending. A couple of hours is a relatively small investment. But a book? Nope. If I'm not absolutely sure the ending is happy, I refuse to read it. Life (or at least sufficient reading time) is too short.

There surely was enough room on the top of that door for Jack too.

But Casablanca has a brilliant HEA ending. Elsa gets to be happy with Victor, Rick loses his cynicism and rejoins the struggle, louis turns into a patriot and the Nazi gets his comuppance. Brilliant!!!
Am I just too sensitive, or does anyone else struggle with the ending? 'Don't give up climbing onto that floating door, Jack!' I want to shout.
So romantic, but so sad.
