What's wrong with Alex?

I kept reading the last page of the book, when Lena describes Alex, and the three words he said (Don't believe her), and I didn't get it! I've seen comments of people saying that is simply because he found Lena kissing Julian, but I think there's something more going on. Then I thought that maybe he was cured in the Crypts, but I found that to be impossible, I mean, if he was cured, why would he escape and go to the Wilds? Hopefully, we'll find out in the next book. Until then, what do you guys think?

Oh my gosh, I did the exact same thing! I'm still trying to decide if I even liked the book because of this...! But yeah, I'm thinking basically the same thing as Rena ^^^ up there, because she said that and that she just is sitting there falling in love with him, and he is right there! Oh my, I need to reread the series, even though I just finished Pandemonium because I didn't reread Delirium first. WOW!

You know, my theory on about when Alex said "Don't believe her." was because he made her promise not to look back over the fence in book one.

.....But she looked back over and broke the promise.

You guys have your theories, this is what I think :)

Unlike most people, I don't think Alex is feeling betrayed.
I think he may be feeling hurt of course but not betrayed, since he should have known that Lena would persume him to be dead. Being Alex and all, I mean he's been nothing but understanding.
And the only way to move on past her pain is for her to find someone else.

I don't know about the "Don't believe her" thing but I have a theory... It may sound crazy and what-not but I think he may be referring to the time at the end of Delirium when he asked Lena to promise that she wouldn't look back when they jumped the fence. But she broke that promise, so maybe he might be reffering to that in a "Don't believe her, she doesn't keep her promises (smirk)" kinda thing. Instead of the "Don't believe her, she promised that it'd be me and her forever"
Because that seems so unlike Alex. As I said, through out Delirium he's been nothing but understanding, and I hope and pray that he stays that way.

Remember the shadows that Lean kept seeing - first, in the place where Rat-man left Julian and Lena; second, in the Salvage - I think that shadow might be Alex. And when Alex said "Don't believe her" maybe he saw every moment that Julian and Lena had, and by that time or moment he felt a betrayal from Lena.. That's what I thought.. argh can't wait for Requiem!

I think Alex is upset with Lena because they really loved each other in Delirium, AND he risked his life for hers. So yeah, he's probably mad that she betrayed him like that. But she did think he was dead, so she does have a reason for being with Julian. Also, I think Alex's time spent in the Crypts probably damaged him too. And even though Lena thought he was dead, it probably hurt Alex that she was with Julian. Alex probably said "don't believe her" because he felt betrayed that Lena would cheat on him, even though she really wasn't. Maybe he believed that she would wait to see if he was alive? But that's just my guess...

Well I think that Alex felt betrayed but he doesn't hate her. I mean I'm sure that if he thought about it then he would understand but putting things in perspective he could NOT have been in the best position...

Alex was just angry that Lena was moving on but now that he's back she might go back to him

I'm pretty sure the author said that the next book will be narrated by two people. I hope it's Lena and Alex...or maybe Alex and Julien?

I think Alex was tortured in the crypts but he kept enduring the pain and suffering because he knew he was going to go back to Lena and she would wait for him. Then when he saw Lena and Julian and he felt betrayed. That's why when Julian asked Lena to stay with him forever and she said she would, Alex said, "Don't believe her when she says forever because we were supposed to be together forever too so don't believe her and get heartbroken like I did".I really feel bad for Alex because at the end of Delirium he sacrifies himself for the girl he loves just to find her smooching some other guy at the end of this book. I hope in the next book he finally gets the happy ending he deserves :(.

I think that the people somehow messed him up like they did with Peeta!!!!!!

i don't get why Alex would be mad at Lena....it's not like she knew he was alive all this time....and life goes on....he of all people should know that....but i can't wait for the nect book so it can all be explained....i can't wait to see how Lena reacted to seeing Alex and what happens with Juliian.....these books take to long to come out....lol

No kidding. I wanted to just jump into the scene and hold Alex. That must have been a very painful thing for him to see. I wonder if he's been looking for her this whole time and she's already hooked up with someone else. That dude saved her life twice, while sacrificing his. Julian cannot hold a candle. I keep wondering what the next book will show. Will she hurt Julian and run back to Alex? If so, would Julian be completely heartbroken that he runs back to the DFA to try for the cure to ease his pain? She's gotta somehow get Julian to stay for the sake of the rebellion. It's definitely going to torture my mind for a year.

I kind of agree... I also think when alex says, "don't believe her." He might mean "don't believe her when she promisses forever because she said that to me too." But he might also be hinting something along the lines of, "Don't believe her when she promisses forever because I'm back and she was mine first!" He may be a little angry at Lena -ok, so really angry- but I'm absolutely positive he still loves her and I'm hoping they'll be together again.

(I know! I'm a hopeless romantic! I can't help myself!)

Rena could be right.
Alex does feel betrayed.

I don't think he was cured, but you have to remember how tortured they were in the crypts. I think tht if we follow the plot of mocking jay to see how peeta was brainwashed but sort of came back to katniss, then we can ope that it will all end well for Lena and Alex. That is the couple I'm rooting for since she stayed alive at the thought of him, and I know he will realize it.

I get that hes betrayed but there was a lot of hate behind his words, and I think that he would have been surprised at the sight of Lena and julien, not have hate off the bat. We'll see what happens when the next one comes out though I guess

I think Alex is feeling betrayed. He thinks Lena moved on without him and therefore is saying, "Don't believe her when she promises forever because she said that to me too."

i have no idea but i was wondering the same thing. i finnaly came up with "Whatever Oliver has in store i will have to wait for"
