Anne wrote: "Hi Mikki!! So glad that Agathe is joining us today. I need a nap too. I'm going to make some strong tea and see if it helps."Isn't that cute? She's finishing up When the Devil Holds the Candle now. Time for a snack of antipasti and then back to business. Ginger Tea for me and a glass of wine later with dinner. ssssshhhhh, don't tell. :)
I said this earlier in the other thread:"My silly absent-minded sister, Almeta, scheduled an event for today and tomorrow, so I'll be reading at home alone today... starting as soon as I'm done with this post! Later I will join Almeta after 4pm so we can support each other in trying to stay up all night reading. We have our dinner and snacks, and energy drinks planned. I'm starting Lord of the Flies which has been on my GR TBR shelf the longest. Then I'm going to try a new genre, steam-punk, with The Girl in the Steel Corset. Talk to you guys later and happy reading!"
Now it's 5:25 and I'm only 1/2 way through Lord of the Flies because, like an idiot, I made a mistake and took my night-time meds this morning and have been sleepy all day. I even went to work out to try to wake up, but couldn't get through the work-out I was so sleepy. Anyway, now fortified with iced coffees and chocolate, Almeta and I are finally settling down to some serious reading! Got some catching up to do if I'm going to get TWO books done as planned.
See ya in the funny pages!

Totally cute. I won't say a word about the wine. Enjoy!

Don't tell anyone, but I've had a couple of glasses of wine already, so you're OK ;)
What? It's 3am already! I don't know if to keep reading or go sleep and start again in the morning or noon whenever I wake up.Anyone planning to remain awake throughout the 24 hour period?
Anne wrote: "Totally cute. I won't say a word about the wine. Enjoy! ..."Thanks. You gotta have wine with Italian!

Ha! Then maybe I'll have two! :)
All you busy little bees are doing quite well! Just got back from RI and figure I may as well join in for part of the festivities. I'm going to start The Art of Fielding in honor of the commencement of baseball season!!! Mikki, how far along is Agathe? Is she enjoying herself?
Tajma wrote: "All you busy little bees are doing quite well! Just got back from RI and figure I may as well join in for part of the festivities. I'm going to start The Art of Fielding in honor of the commencemen..."Yay, Tajma! :) Good to see you are able to join.

You mentioned you took out your first book. Is it long enough? Maybe that could be your Goose :)
I might try to stay awake the whole 24 hours. Although usually if I've done it, it's been by accident - intentionally would be harder. Seems like that should be another award :)
Agathe's doing well and enjoying herself. She currently getting together a little antipasto platter.

I agree. It vouches for another award.
Judy, pass me the toothpicks please.
Good luck to all of you. I'm not participating but I'm amazed at how you can all read and post at the same time. I'd never be able to finish a book in a day. I get distracted and just don't read that fast. The discussions about food, snacks and beverages is intriguing too :)
I'm 80% done with Four Freedoms, so I should be finished in another hour or so and that will be my longest-on-TBR FINALLY read :-D

I'm now starting Reluctant Protector by Nana Malone and I'm hoping I like it. I'm trying to knock off a bunch of my shorter tbr books that I got as kindle freebies off my list for the toppler.
Kimberly wrote: "So I finished the dreadful book
A Dixie Christmas by Sandra Hill and I gave it 1 star."Bravo Kimberly for finishing it. You deserve an award for finishing a book you didn't like from the start.
And it's off my TBR list now. Thanks.
It's almost 4am. Toothpicks are not managing to keep my eyes open anymore. I hope to get up a bit early and resume reading. Good luck everyone, see you in the morning.
Well the new Doritos Tacos from Taco Bell are interesting. They are not horrible but I suppose I would have preferred to have a regular taco and a bag of Doritos. Now I am perched snugly on my futon with starburst jellybeans within reach. I am still in Florence with Lucy and have quite a lot to read. I hope I don't nod off.

Thanks Pragya :) I think I deserve a little snack for finishing it.
Have a goodnight!
Pragya wrote: "It's almost 4am. Toothpicks are not managing to keep my eyes open anymore. I hope to get up a bit early and resume reading. Good luck everyone, catch you in the morning."Good night, Pragya!
I've now got Mr Kat home after a few too many drinks distracting me! But I think he'll fall asleep soon and order will be restored LOL
Pragya wrote: "It's almost 4am. Toothpicks are not managing to keep my eyes open anymore. I hope to get up a bit early and resume reading. Good luck everyone, see you in the morning."Good job, Pragya!! 4am is nothing to sneeze at for a non-insomniac. :-)

Almeta and I are going to try. Last time I made it, but Almeta dozed off for just a little bit. We'll see how we do tonight!

Good night, Pragya. See you in the morning.
Kat wrote: "I've now got Mr Kat home after a few too many drinks distracting me! But I think he'll fall asleep soon and order will be restored LOL"That gave me a giggle :)
Darren will be home in an hour and a half so I have to make dinner soon, Not sure how long he'll be concious he's worked 90 hours this past 8 days and he's dead tired.
Cranberry green tea? Never heard of that kind! Yum to the popcorn though I gave up eating the stuff 4 years ago and I miss it terribly.
It's midnight here and I've hit about halfway in For Whom The Bell Tolls but vision getting a bit blurry so time for more tea and possibly a snack or two to get the energy levels back up!
Kimberly wrote: "Cranberry green tea? Never heard of that kind! Yum to the popcorn though I gave up eating the stuff 4 years ago and I miss it terribly."It's just about the only way I will drink green tea!
I love popcorn...too much unfortunately!
Sam wrote: "It's midnight here and I've hit about halfway in For Whom The Bell Tolls but vision getting a bit blurry so time for more tea and possibly a snack or two to get the energy levels back up!"Go Sam! It's 1am for me, snacks have helped enormously!
So I'm liking the new book better than the last which is good news :) I've got Salmon in the oven and potatoes peeled for fries and I'm all set. How's everyone's reading progressing?
Just finished Four Freedoms which WAS one of the books longest on my TBR - hurray! I really enjoyed it, far more than I thought I would for the first 15% of the book. Now to make another cup of tea and start with Of Mice and Men.
That's great Kat :) I loved Of Mice and Men it's one of the few books I read in high school (grade 9) that I enjoyed...can't believe it's been 8 years since then already. I hope you like it!
It's my first Steinbeck, even though I have several of them on my TBR - I never had required reading at school so there are plenty of 'classics' I've never read.Mr Kat is now sleeping peacefully so I can break out the reaaaaaally good snacks - white oreos!
Good morning all! It's 9:30am on the dot in Melbourne, and I've been reading for about two hours-- I woke up at 5 but couldn't stay awake, so I slept a bit longer.
Anyway, I'm at Chapter 12 of Wuthering Heights and just chomping down on a bologne and ketchup sandwich for some energy, then back to reading!
As to Steinbeck, his best book is East of Eden. I didn't like Grapes of Wrath, and Of Mice and Men was acceptable. But East of Eden was absoltuely fantastic.
Yay Kimberly! Hope the current book continues to hold your interest.I'm 2/3 of the way through The Mistress of Spices. Really liking it. Taking a break to go pick up a pizza.

Morning Maria! How's Melbourne today?
Kat wrote: "Time for my first (!) round of snacks - some nice hot salted popcorn and a cranberry green tea."Do you buy Cranberry Green Tea or do you mix Green Tea with Cranberry? It sounds great. I tried mixing raspberry lemonade with iced tea the other day and though it was great.
Mintymedley wrote: "Kat wrote: "Time for my first (!) round of snacks - some nice hot salted popcorn and a cranberry green tea."Do you buy Cranberry Green Tea or do you mix Green Tea with Cranberry? It sounds great...."
I just buy it that way - I'm far too lazy to make my own creations!
I dozed for just a moment earlier and woke to the wonderful scene in A Room with a View on my audio book where Lucy finds George on the countryside. I am so happy my subconscious decided to wake me at just that moment.
Morning Maria! How's Melbourne today? It's lovely-- best part is that the entire family is off sightseing and I have the house to myself.
Night, Kat! Sleep well!
Slight change of plans..... I can't read of mice and men in bed as my ereader isn't backlit but I found a reading light so I'm going to read a little of I am Legend instead :)
Judy wrote: "Aw, Sheesh, Janice, I hate to tell you but I was going for reading an entire book in another way/setting(s)...:-( "I don't think the library is open long enough for me to read the entire book there. I should have goosed the guard for my reward.
Oh well - next Toppler I'll read the award criteria better.
Good morning Maria and nightie night Kat!And thanks for the toothpicks Judy, I'm certainly in need of them at the moment. Hit a slow bit in my reading with a particularly heavy chapter but pasted it now so hoping to pick up a bit of speed now but still only a bit over halfway through at the moment.
I may treat myself to a nap when I finish this book though...hmmmmm ;-)
