Written as a handbook for new or aspiring parents, What’s It Take To Make A Man? proposes a bold, even visionary approach to solving the twin problems of boys with little purpose and families with little connection. The book provides a practical, comprehensive road map for the rebirth of real Manhood and Family-hood. Just as the Women’s Movement forever dispelled the notion of women as second class, What’s It Take To Make A Man? will lead the simmering parent revolt against pop culture’s degradation of young men and their character.
With engaging chapter titles like “The Hole In The Soul Generation” and “Raising vs. Nurturing,” What’s It Take To Make A Man? gets right to the point, in a common sense style that is inclusive of all boys, no matter what their sexual preference, or even their parents’ gender or relationship. Over 132,000 American teens attempted suicide in a recent year. Boys were five times more likely to try than girls. Boys are seven times more likely to drop out of school before age 18, and are joining gangs at alarming rates. By any measure, our boys are timed out, disengaged, and failing fast. Most have no idea of their obligation, or even their option, to become Men of character.
About Author R.O. Bloch:
R.O. Bloch’s professional background is in marketing. For over 40 years, he has travelled the roads of the Pacific Northwest, providing advanced systems to the food industry. Along the way, he has had a long public service career, involved with boys and girls in many venues, from Boy Scouts to city-wide youth projects, to multi-racial cultural events. Both as a parent and in his community service guise, he has raised and mentored boys and girls for over 40 years. This practical, hands-on experience from so many different vantages makes his insight into parenting and family all the more relevant. Bloch holds a Masters Degree in Human Nutrition from Washington State University.
Bloch’s wife is an elementary school teacher. Together, they have watched as her male students have increasingly become disinterested in, unaccountable to, and disinherited from their roles in today’s society.
Bloch started an organization about a year ago to address this problem. It’s called SAVE OUR BOYS USA. They’re on the web at http://saveourboysusa.com. They’re effort is to be a clearing house for all the community-wide resources to get boys back on track.
Presently, Bloch edits and publishes newsletters in the sports field. These publications are distributed in print and electronic format to subscribers in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana.
