Fang leapt into the air, his wings catching the breeze, propelling him upwards. "Thank you for telling me!" he called down to her.

Dancing Rain nodded and didn't know what else to do. She couldn't very well just run to where Shard was. How would that help anything? And she could get to the air... But... the cave...

She ran to the cave and up the slope she wanted to show Shard. She ended up on the rock above the water fall and looked down at the trees... what was that strange thing? Was that...

The stink hit Fang like a bat in the face. Immediately, panic flooded through him. "Dancing Rain, get away!" he said, shrilly. Humans had destroyed his herd, and now they were after him again. Urgently, he searched for his sister. Fear was clogging his thoughts, and he knew that the human was looking for Shard. He had always said that he liked her best...

Dancing Rain looked up at him. "It's-It's..." She couldn't get it out. She shook her head. She couldn't leave. She had to help. She ran down the slope and out, avoiding his tracks while looking for Shard.

Fang shot down in front of her, leaves scattering as he hit the ground. "No." he said, his voice edged with fear. "Get out of here. I'm looking for her. If you stay around he'll catch you, and Shard will never forgive herself." he reared aggressively up. "Now leave!" he ordered.

"I can't! Someone I know is in danger!" She turned and kept running. She wanted to call out, but didn't know if the human would understand or hear her.

Fang pounded after her, his hooves barely hitting the ground. "Dancing Rain! Please, I'm begging you. For Shard's sake, you need to get away." His tone was full of desperation. "Please Dancing Rain, I'm begging you."

Dancing Rain stopped short. She turned back. "How will one less unicorn looking for her help her any?" Her tone echoed his. "And standing here talking won't help her either." But she didn't bound off again.

Fang looked at her with pain and torture in his eyes. "Because it's her he wants. But if he can get more than one if he gets her, well then he'll take it. And this forest needs one more unicorn, not 2 less. I'll get her back myself. But I will do it alone."

"There's a herd just down the... There's a herd just down the river! And there's Shard... and Ebony... and Thirn... Oh no... no no no no no no no no!" Dancing Rain ran off to where the herd was.

Fang shot after her, anger burning in his eyes. "Why are you doing this to her, Dancing Rain? Are you that selfish that you would risk yourself, even if you will undoubtedly fail and make Shard be in pain the rest of her life? You're killing her!"

"Are you so egotistical that you have to be the one to save everyone?" Dancing Rain was getting irritated. "Your sister and my friends are in danger, and they wouldn't be if I had shut up about that noise."

Fang snorted in frustration. "Why won't you listen to me? He doesn't care about the other unicorns. He just wants Shard. So, in truth, I'm just saving one unicorn!"

Dancing Rain snorted back. "And why won't you listen to me? You said yourself, if he can get more than one, than he will. There's a herd out there! There's others here! I'm trying to help them!"

Fang leapt into the air, extending his wings for flight. If anything, he would at least be able to get there before Dancing Rain did.

Shard smelled the human. Immediately, she reared up onto her hind legs, trying to show aggression. She hated him.

Dancing Rain snorted and kept running. Her alert had only confused the herd.

"Human!" That got them all running. "Go downstream! Stay together!" She led them and once they got the idea, went back to the meadow where it started and ran in the direction Shard had ran. She could only hope it wasn't too late...

Shard bolted the other way, and streaked into the deepest parts of the forest. She dashed through it, not caring about the brush that scratched and mangled her fur. She just wanted to get away.

Dancing Rain saw Shard dash in front of her. She chased her... to think that only that morning she was bored...

"Shard! Your brother's coming!" She called, and kept chasing after her, hoping Fang would see.

Shard ignored everything. Her only survival instinct told her that she needed to run away. She needed to get away from the danger. She leapt into the air, spreading her wings to catch the air. She could travel faster by the wind anyways.

Shard looked at her fear clouding her eyes. "Yeah, I know him." she said softly.

Dancing Rain watched Jade jump into the air. She had never noticed that she had wings. But now that Shard was in the air, she felt better. She went to where the herd was.

"Is everyone OK?" When she got a positive she told them what was happening. "You have to get well away from here, alright? I'm going to go with you, otherwise someone," she glanced at the sky, "is going to get mad at me... So, let's go!" She started running with the herd.

Shard took a deep breath. "He destroyed my herd. He killed my parents. And now he's after me. To keep me as a pet."

Shard looked away. "I led him here. I exposed the one last safety haven for the unicorns. Wonderful."

Dancing Rain looked up and saw Shard... Where did Fang go, though? Did he land? She looked back down and watched for the human... why did he have to cause so much trouble?

Fang was currently locked in battle with the human. Angrily, he lashed out at him with his hooves, knocking the human over. The human began to shout, and started firing bullets at him. One hit Fang right in the side. He screamed shrilly, then collapsed onto the ground.

Dancing Rain heard something... a band, a shrill, then a thud... Sounds that probably weren't a good thing. She didn't know what to do. She felt an obligation to stay where she was, but she had to go and find...

She shook her head and ran from the herd. She stopped when she was behind the human. She reared up silently and hit him in the head with her hooves. He fell unconscious.

"Fang!"

Fang pried open one eye. "Dancing Rain..." he wheezed. "I'm... sorry. Tell... Shard... that I... love her."

Dancing Rain clenched her jaw. "You're going to be fine, Fang!" She turned to the human and stabbed her horn through the heart. She wildly turned back to Fang. "You are not going to die! You have to fight! For Shard!" She ran away from Fang and back to the herd for the healer, and ran back.

"The human did something! He's hurt, right there!"

Fang moaned, his jaw opening painfully.

"Do something!" Dancing Rain watched as the healer checked his wound and dug out a round-ish object with her horn. She closed his wound with the tip of her horn, like only healers could do.

"We can only hope that everything attaches properly, now." The healer left and Dancing Rain looked at the sky, trying to find Shard. She sat next to Fang.

Fang closed his jaw again. Then, he fell asleep.

Dancing Rain watched as Fang fell asleep and got up. She looked distastefully at the human body and pushed it down to the stream and watched it go downstream. She returned to Fang, but didn't see how she could be helpful there, so she went back to the cliff. She searched the skies for Shard.

Shard soared for a long time, heading further and further away from the forest. She wished that she knew where Fang was.

Dancing Rain thought she saw a speck in the sky. Was that Shard?

"Shard!!" She yelled out. She doubted she would hear her, though. She shook her head and went back to Fang and sat down behind him.

Fang gasped in another breath. Slowly, he opened one of his eyes.

((I don't know! I'm just trying desperately to save him, questioning the same thing... should I try so hard? Maybe she should die... I don't know!!))

"Fang?" Dancing Rain looked down at Fang.

Fang heaved another breath. "Dancing... Rain... If... I... don't make... it..." coughing he rasped another breath. "Tell... Shard... that I'm... sorry."

"Here's the thing, Fang. You are going to make it. No nonsense about dying." Dancing Rain said forcefully. "Now rest, you need it."

Fang closed his eyes again. His breathing, although raspy, evened out.

Dancing Rain stared at the sky. Where could Shard be going? Would she come back? All she knew was that she couldn't go find her, and she had to stay here with Fang.

Dancing Rain got up and went to get water. She got a bowl from the healer and filled it with water, carrying it to Fang. She sat down a few feet away and fell asleep.
