The Man from U.N.D.E.A.D 2 - Zombie Apocolypse

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Silliness? Surely not! After all, the book is entirely sensible, isn't it? Although I must admit there were as few times I was struggling not to laugh!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I didn't struggle, I just laughed, Loud and long and clear. I love to laugh, It's getting worse every year.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Of course I laughed too Jud - I was trying to be ironic in my last post....

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments The more I laugh
The more I fill with glee
And the more the glee
The more I'm a merrier me
It's embarrassing!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh, the irony!
I wonder if anyone read this who hadn't read the first? I did read both but I feel it would very well stand being read alone.

Best bits? Well, I have to say the part set in Hull struck home because I could imagine it happening!

I also loved the bit with the stuffed animals. I have always felt stuffed animals to be creepy but this must have been something else.

Oh, and the bit where Ward lands on the castle roof in adverse winds!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I liked the very beginning with the glider trying to catch the dinosaur. Lovely dramatic start. Also enjoyed where he was pretending to be the valet to Peter. And the bare bottom defense!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I think that was my favourite bit in the upper class club place

message 9: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments I would very much like to know how people thought it worked if you hadn't read the first. It was written as a standalone story, though clearly reference to things that had gone before would be made. Did it work?

message 10: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments That's what I asked Darren, but most people seem either to have read Number One already or maybe even decided to read them in order when this was recommended.

That was an attempt to do something with the zombie theme that I hadn't actually seen anyone do before. It probably has been, but I hadn't read it.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I am sure I have read the animals come to life thing before but cant thnk what book it was in. It is a creepy idea though and it worked very well.

message 13: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I've never read it before either Darren!!

And I have read the first book so I can't answer your question

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I read this one before the first and it was great as a stand-alone.
Even better when I read it the second time after reading the first, of course.

Again, I was amazed at Darren's ability to describe a place and make me feel as though I've been there. Darren taps into my imagination perfectly to make me see the characters and places without making me feel spoon fed.

Oh yeah. Sometimes he makes me chortle a bit too.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Yes, the dinosaur plateau became real didn't it? He's not a bad author, all things considered. (I mean, considering he's a daft lad!)

There was the hedge animals in The Shining, but that's not quite the same.

message 17: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It was very effective here. As I've said, taxidermy is weird anyway but the idea of trying to fight them off, it really stayed with me!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Topiary is never out of place.

Out of time and distance perhaps but never out of place....

message 19: by Pauline (new)

Pauline Byrne | 26 comments I really enjoyed this book, I was confident that I would as I enjoyed the first one and like the style (and humour) of the writing.

What did you think of Ward's relationship with the Director of U.N.D.E.A.D. Did it come across to you that he dislikes authority, even if he wants to like the person?

message 20: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Gosh, it was so long ago I read it now I can hardly remember but I think I remember reading bits where it seemed he realised that the Director was or could be a decent enough person, but she was still the Director and he should not like her.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I think Ward has grudging respect for her as she's as much of a rogue as he is.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments And she for him.

message 23: by Pauline (new)

Pauline Byrne | 26 comments I agree I think they had grudging respect for each other. We're you surprised at his relationship with Veronika? I thought he was going to be a bit of a James Bond type ladies man but Ward remained faithful even on the face of temptation. That made me like him more.

message 24: by Jacquie (new)

Jacquie | 99 comments I did not think I would enjoy this book so did not bother buying the first book. I enjoyed the book however and did not feel that I missed any of the story by not reading book 1. Although I may change my mind after reading book 1.
