((awww goodnight))
"Not exactly."
"Well it doesn't make sense," she argued. "You hadn't even met me before..." She thought better of what she was going to say and shook her head. "Nevermind, you never answer that straight out."

He frowned. "Don't you have any faith in me?"
"I'd have remembered meeting someone like you. And you said so besides."
"I'd have remembered meeting someone like you. And you said so besides."
"Of course I do," she said, her voice faltering a bit at the end.
"I'd known of you before we met."
"I'd known of you before we met."
"What's so different about this that you don't want me to go? I've handled Morgana before."
"Yeah, and you were working for her."
"Yeah, and you were working for her."
She pinched the bridge of her nose and closed her eyes. "I don't know. I'm just worrying too much."
"So I had sort-of known you before we had met."
"So I had sort-of known you before we had met."
"Are you sure that's all?"
"Okay, you knew of me, fine. That's not much of a basis for an emotional attachment."
"Okay, you knew of me, fine. That's not much of a basis for an emotional attachment."
She opened her eyes and looked at him. "What?"
"I guess I was ... " he sighed and leaned his hands on the top of the couch. "Infatuated, maybe?"

She nodded too and looked up at Peter. "So what do we do," she murmured.
"You don't think it's possible?"
"You don't think it's possible?"
"Then what do you suggest?" she asked, looking at James out of the corner of her eye.
"Weirder things have happened."
"Weirder things have happened."
((we are finally on at the same time!))
"Is that okay?"
"I dunno, that pretty much tops my list of strange things."
"Is that okay?"
"I dunno, that pretty much tops my list of strange things."
"Can do," Peter said. "Everything's paid for. Let's get out of here."
She thought a bit. "Okay, that was a little weird. Part of it is relevant--" She shook her head. "I'm used to weird, though. This is different."

James nodded and got up. Peter was already halfway to the door.
"Because I don't know what to do about any of this. You're faced with danger, with life or death, there's always a choice that presents itself. Always. It makes sense." She sighed. "This doesn't make sense."

Ray stood up and followed them out.
"No, I guess it doesn't," he said and laughed once, "I don't get it either."
"No, I guess it doesn't," he said and laughed once, "I don't get it either."
"Are you two in a hurry?" Peter asked when they got outside.
She didn't laugh and looked away, biting her lip.

He nodded and started off.
She sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "How do I know that what you say you feel towards me is real and actually what you say it is?" There, she said it. Finally said it: maybe this wasn't love. Something else. Anything else. Because love didn't make sense.

She took James by the hand and walked after Peter.
He opened his mouth to reply, but blinked and straightened his posture. He was quiet for a while, and then he murmured, "Are you saying that you don't trust me?"

He squeezed her hand slightly.
"You've saved my life more than once; I think you've earned trust by now."
"You've saved my life more than once; I think you've earned trust by now."
He leaned down to whisper in her ear, "Everything okay?"
"I know," she sighed, finally standing up from the couch like the action would make anything better. "I'm not suggesting that you would lie to me about it. Maybe, I dunno, it's not what you think it is. Maybe you needed something to attach yourself to because reasons. Maybe it doesn't mean what you think it means. Hell, I was a file! A science experiment. I shouldn't mean a damn thing to you."

"I'll be fine," she mumbled, running a hand through her hair.
"Alright. I see what you're saying. But don't you think, even if you couldn't call it love before, that I would have developed feelings for you by now?"
"Alright. I see what you're saying. But don't you think, even if you couldn't call it love before, that I would have developed feelings for you by now?"
"That means no," he translated, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. "Talk to me. What is it?"
"You don't really act like it."
"You don't really act like it."
She pressed her fingertips against her eyes. "This whole thing. I don't like it."
"You won't reciprocate anyway," he blurted, eyes wide.
"You won't reciprocate anyway," he blurted, eyes wide.
"What would you do?"
She rolled her eyes. "You don't know that," she said, walking around to the other side of the couch. "And allow me to point out that a long time ago, I would probably have gone along with almost anything. I'm not stupid anymore, okay? I'm not fit to be liked much."

"I-I don't know. We have to get him back."
"So would things have been different had I been more romantic before?"
"So would things have been different had I been more romantic before?"
"That's all I've been saying. Do you have a better idea?"
"No. I was a kid and you were an overly romanticized fictional character. And then you were taken and I got my head on straight. And now you're depressed and I'm not one of those people really worthy of being loved anyway. What more can you ask of this situation?"

"Then we're going to start talking ourselves in circles," he said with half a smile.
"Because everyone who has ever claimed to like me has some kind of problem with their perception of themselves, and it's not like I've ever done anything."

"I wanted to hear you say you love me, without any of the usual hesitation there is," he said quickly and smiled sadly, "But .. I guess that's too much, right?"
