He laughed. "All right. I'll see if we can make a side trip soon."
"Don't get into too much trouble without me."
"Don't get into too much trouble without me."
"Brother, sister?"
Just as they were about to turn into the salon, they were stopped by a group of girls.
"Oh my god, are you Edward Cullen?" one of them asked, eyes wide. She had a necklace on that said 'Bite Me'.
"Unfortunatley," he said quietly, trying to find a way out.

"Two brothers and two sisters."
Mimi stood there, biting her lip to keep from laughing but at the same time hoping no one really noticed her there.

"Big family, huh?"
"I'd totally give up my family for you, Edward. Turn me into a vampire."
"I'm sure they wouldn't want to here that."
"I've always been Team Edward."
And so the onslaught of girly fandom continued, with Edward slowly backing away from the crowd and trying to appease them and get rid of them at the same time.

"Yep."
The owner of the salon noticed the crowd outside the store and went out to see what was going on. "Why, I'm astonished at you young ladies!" the elderly woman with long silver hair bellowed at them. "Being rude to this young man while he's out for an afternoon stroll. Go on, get, all of you!" There was a collective moan of complaint from the fangirls. "Don't make me call up a higher authority!" she threatened. The crowd dispersed.
Michelle started towards the door, but the woman stopped her. "You too. Get."

"Why wouldn't I be?"
"And, um, I was kind of hoping to get my hair cut."
The woman immediately brightened. "Well, come on in, then," she said, holding the door open for them to enter anyway. "I'll have to apologize for those girls, young man. I let them hang around here some days when the ice cream shop next door is on a lunch break, but they were behaving terribly."

"Family..." he shrugged.
"The life of a celebrity," she clucked, leading Mimi over to a chair. "What'll it be, then, kiddo?"
"I don't know."
"You don't know?"
"I just want it short. A little less than shoulder length? Other than that I'm clueless."
"Used to long hair for a while, huh?"
"You have no idea."
"What do you want it to look like, how about?"
She shrugged, unable to imagine herself with short hair. "Surprise me."

"It's not always fun and games."
"In all my years owning this place, I've never heard that before."
She grinned. "Good to know."
"You sure about this?"
"Yep."
"All right, then. You in for a haircut, too, young man?" she called over to Edward as she got various things from corners of the room.

He shrugged. "Do you really want to meet them?"
She shrugged and turned back to Mimi. "Okay, are you donating?"
"Sure."
Nodding, the woman took a rubberband and made a ponytail out of most of her braid and snipped it away, putting the resulting length of hair on an empty space of a naarby table. "Go ahead and take out the rest of your braid while I get this ready."
Mimi murmured an agreement and started running her fingers through her dramatically shorter hair, undoing the plaits as she did so.

"Oh, just you wait."
And blah, she got her hair cut and it was dramatically short and she was kind of unrecognizable.

"Um. Sure." He sighed. "Brace yourself."
"Thanks," she replied, smiling.
"You two are so cute," the hair lady told them on her way to the cash register.

"All right. There's my oldest sister, Hannah. She's got a black belt in every martial art imaginable and has kind of a temper, and she's never been afraid to beat anyone up, especially not that one time her now ex-boyfriend cheated on her." He shook his head. "A few times she's been hired out as a hitwoman. And she likes that job a little too much."
Mimi elbowed him in the ribs and gave the woman money. "Thank you so much for the haircut."
"Oh, any time. Good-bye now!"
And they left.

"And after that is my brother, Brian. He got beat up the most. He speaks seventeen languages and works almost exclusively as a mercenary spy for whichever country is hiring, and he's never once gotten arrested. He's got this impeccable sense of timing that I'm sure isn't unrelated to some sort of special ability. He mutters to himself a lot and is kind of a lot more than paranoid."
"No idea," she replied, taking a random direction. "Let's explore."

"And my younger brother, Joe. He's a real character. He was a contortionist for a while in the circus or something, and now he's a professional lock picker. I don't know when the transition happened. He's a real flirt and can pick his way out of anything, real smooth talker."
"Huzzah."
"Huzzah."
"Ivy," he replied, nodding. "Nickname, not irony. Her real name is Irene. She's about your age, maybe a little older. Runs a nice little herb shop back home, except in the back of the store is where she experiments with poisons. Helps out my assassin friend every now and then. Lots of good work comes her way."
"Have a place in mind already?"
"Have a place in mind already?"
"Yeah, we still talk and stuff. My family thinks I'm a big disappointment, though."
"Are we going there at night?"
"Are we going there at night?"
"All right, if you say so."
"Of course," she replied, thinking as they walked. "Some kind of night club, right? Ray'll get a kick out of that."
