"I'll try," Edward murmured, biting his lip when Carlisle's eyes tightened.

Carlisle looked at him one time, before leaving without a word. Edward sighed, then was about to leave too...but then he heard a rustling in the darknees nearby. He froze.

Edward was about to leave, assuming it was an animal, before he saw three figures approaching. It was Demetri, flanked by Jane and Alec. Edward growled quietly.
"What are you doing here? I thought Aro sent Laurent," he said in a low voice.
"Aro had no use for Laurent," Jane said.
"So he got us to kill him," Alec finished her sentence with a smirk.

"So why are you coming to me?" he asked, crouching down into a defensive position.
"You know very well why," Demetri said, a wicked smile forming on his face.
"I am not going to join the Volturi guard," edward growled.
"Oh, why not?' Jane asked, tilting her head to the side.
Edward snarled as a reply.
"Well then, we'll just have to force you to join.."

Edward took a step back as the trio took one forward in unison.
"It'll be easier if we don't have to force you," Jane said, although she very much wanted to hurt him.

Edward winced and fell to his knees, pain shooting through his mind as Alec and Jane joined hands. He growled, then ran and pounced on the nearest vampire. Demetri threw him off easily, smirking.
"That all you got?" he taunted. Edward snarled, attempting to lift himself from the ground. It was hard, though, with the inability to think. His vision blurred for a millisecond, but that was enough time to send him flying across the field as one of the vampire's fists connected with his body.

Edward let out a quiet breath and slowly got up, before dashing off. He needed to get out of there, fast. He could sense the others coming close behind him, gaining. He had to tell her...to say good-bye one last time. He glanced over his shoulder, fear passing over his onyx eyes for a breif moment.

He climbed over a fence and kept running, his mind focused that one thought: just keep running until you have time. Time is what you need.
He slipped into an empty cave, hoping it would hide his scent for a little bit. Suprisingly, he found a pen and paper in his pocket. He frowned slightly, then started writing frantically.

Dear Michelle,
I know this is kind of sudden, but I don't have much time. I can't explain my reasons, but I have to be leaving. I regret taking those last few minutes together for granted... I'm really sorry I can't say good-bye formally.
I know I made that promise to wait for you...I'll try to hold it, even if I can't uphold that promise while I'm gone.

Edward sighed and put the note in his pocket, hoping he would have time to drop it off somewhere where she would find it. However, that time was very short.
"We have you cornered...no escape, Cullen," Demetri hissed from the mouth of the cave. Edward growled.
"Fine, I'll join you," he muttered, "But let me do something first."
"Very well..you have five minutes. You hear? Five minutes, Ed," Demetri said and Edward dashed off. Five minutes was all he needed.

Edward ran towards Mimi's house, reaching his destination in under two minutes. He paused, hesitating. He couldn't let her see him..there wouldn't be enough time to explain.

Edward bit his lip, then slipped it into her mailbox. He cast one glance at her window, then ran away.

michelle sighed and emerged from her room.
"hey, mimi," her mum prompted. "can you do me a favor and go check the mail?"
michelle's expression twitched for a moment ((idk how else to describe it, i do it all the time)) but she shrugged. "sure thing, mum," she said, heading downstairs.

Edward bit his lip as Demetri, Jane, and Alec surrounded him. He cast a cold glare at each of them, before sighing. "Fine, take me to Italy,"
"I thought you'd never ask," Jane said with a wry smile.

michelle looked at the open mailbox with a rose sticking up out of it. strange, she thought, going over to retrieve it, and looking to see if there was anything else there to explain it. she saw a folded up note, and nothing else. she closed the mailbox and sat on the porch to read it, putting the rose in her lap.

Edward reluctantly followed, glancing once over his shoulder. He was glad no one could read his thoughts...yet.

she read it a few times over, slowly, trying to understand. the first thing she thought was taht it was important family business, but he would have had the time to say goodbye if that were the case. what had him rushing off so quickly? she appreciated the rose; she'd dry it like all the others she'd managed to keep alive.

They arrived in Volterra and Edward grimaced, remembering it all too well.
"I hope you remember the way, Cullen," Demetri said as they entered the tunnel that led to their base. Edward didn't reply, glancing at a group of tourists at the mouth of the tunnel. One man kept crossing himself and Edward sighed. Poor humans...

she sighed, biting her lip, feeling like she'd wasted so much time. she leaned against the railing, the late spring breeze relaxing as it blew lightly into her face.

Edward paused for a moment, being roughly shoved forward by Alec. He growled quietly, but said nothing; he was their prisoner.

Edward frowned when he came face-to-face with the Volturi trio. Aro's eyes were lit up with some sort of light, as usual, Caius looks blood-thirsty, and Marcus looked...well, bored.
"Ah, Edward, I was wondering when you'd show up," Aro said, clapping his hands together in satisfaction.

she stood and walked upstairs, figuring she couldnt really do anything about it. "no mail, mum," she lied, walking quickly to her room. she hung the rose upside down on a hook in her closet ceiling, and left it there. she layed down on her bed and read the note over again, feeling stupid.

michelle put the note in the back pocket of her jeans and went to the computer, oblivious as to whether she should be on or not. she went on goodreads and sent ray an inbox message:

Rayana opened up Goodreads, biting on a cookie. She saw that she had one inbox message. she opened it and raised an eyebrow at the message.
Ooh, what? she typed back, hitting the send button as she leaned back in her chair.

Caius muttered something under his breath, but didn't argue.
Aro looked at Edward, smiling slightly. "Let's get you prepared for initiation, shall we?" he asked. Edward grimaced as his reply.

he left. he gave me a note with a vague explanation and a rose, and he left. she replied bluntly, frowning at her choice of words.

just a normal conversation. he said carlisle was in town and he should go talk to him, and then i went and got the mail and found all that. now, if it was a family emergency, you'd think he'd have the time to tell me or something, so i dont think thats it... do you want me to tell you what the note said?
