She poked his stomach. "Quit torturing this kid," she said, then stuck her tongue out at him. "I'm going to check the bread."
Looking at the timer, she figured it wouldn't hurt to shave a few minutes off the cooking time. And besides, it would keep baking in the pan if she left it out for a few minutes. So she took it out of the oven and set it on the counter, drizzled a honey-butter mixture over the top, and let it sit to cool. "You've got a while to wait yet," she teased. "Five whole minutes."
"Depends on the day," she replied, shrugging. "But I'm baking bread, so that should give you an idea."
She scrambled back to her feet and grabbed his hands right before he could reach the bread. "Not so fast, wise guy."
Addie laughed and snuck in a kiss before gently taking the breat from the pan. "There, now you can tear into it."
"You're allowed to. This is hardly a work of art. Though I recommend butter," she said, gesturing to the butter dish that had been sitting there since the bread started baking.
"Alright," he said and looked around, mumbling 'knives' to himself in an attempt to look for them.
