Chris' father stumbled back a few steps when he saw his son. "Christopher?" he whispered, aghast.
"Hi Dad," the other replied, attempting to seem cheerful.
"Hi Dad," the other replied, attempting to seem cheerful.
"What? Wha-- how is this possible?"
"Uh, magic?" Chris offered, then immediatley regretted what he had said.
"Magic?" his father growled, his brows furrowing.

"Magic?" his father growled, his brows furrowing.
"Is that what you told him?" he thundered, looking at her.
"Hey, hold on," Chris said in an attempt to pacify him, "She had nothing to do with it."
"And I suppose she made you believe that too, huh?"

"And I suppose she made you believe that too, huh?"
He was about to say something when Chris cut him off.
"Look, Dad, nobody asked you to come here."
"I came here for your sake! Who knows what she would have done with your body? Might have burned it, for all we know," he growled, "She doesn't know the first thing about the proper treatment of a body."
"Get out of here," Chris said in a low voice.

"No it wouldn't. I told you to marry that other girl, Christopher," he said, turning back to his son.
"Look, I'm not dealing with this right now."
"Then when will you deal with it? You're leading yourself into trouble."
"I know what I'm doing, Dad. It's not up to you to make my decisions for me. And I sure as hell don't appreciate your criticisms, so do us all a favor and leave."

"Might I thank you, by the way, for insulting me in my own house? Somehow I think your religious morale goes against that, but I could be wrong."
His father gritted his teeth, then turned around and went for the door. "You'll heed my words, Christopher, or worse yet is to come for you," he said and left.
"He's insane," Chris muttered when he was gone.
"He's insane," Chris muttered when he was gone.
"Did he just curse you?" she asked, shivering a little. "There's power in words, especially in this house."

She nodded to herself and then stuck her head out, pajama pants half on. "Hey, where are you planning to sleep?" She wasn't sure if he was being implicative or not.
She pulled him inside by the collar of his shirt, kissed him quickly, and then pulled away to sit rather innocently on the edge of the bed.
"Mmmm, if you want," she murmured, leaning against the pillows. For a few moments, she pretended to be asleep.
