Someone was on his back, but he didn't dare turn around to look. He knew that he had to keep running, instictly knowing that whatever or whoever was on his back was very important. He growled and dodged trees and boulders, climbing faster to higher ground.
The person on his back started to whine and he felt sweat dripping off his face. I have to get him higher up. I have to get him higher up. We must escape.

Quinn burst into the bare top of the moutain, the bald head of the mountain man, and fell to his knees in front of a flat stone that was sitting directly in the center. He pulled the carrier off his back and set it on the rock, setting free the two-year-old boy who was strapped in it.
"I'm sorry, bud." He whispered and kissed his forehead. "We have to stay here to keep safe."
The little boy moved his thumb up to his mouth and started sucking on it. "Momma?" He mumbled around it. Quinn shivered.
"No. Mommy's not going to be here."
