"Hey," he grinned, "I'd tell you to start from the beginning, but I don't think that's any help either.
She sighed and put on her serious face. "All right, here goes. From the beginning of the middle, how's that?"
"I moved here when I was like seventeen, built my own house, hid from people trying to murder me," she ticked off her fingers, "I used to practice witchcraft, met long lost family, managed to distinctly not get killed--let me know when I start repeating myself."
"Uh... fell in love, escaped more murder attempts--those tended to happen a lot. Chicago had it in for me big time. Then I watched everyone else's lives get screwed up for a time, because I was kind of content. People died, fell out of love, and then you showed up distinctly not dead in the forest by my house. Fun stuff."
"I met you a few months after I came here. It was... difficult to get to know you. Not that I'm a very social creature or anything."
"You seemed just as intent as I was on being a lone wolf, I guess. And you had a few personal issues going on as well, I'd wager. You wouldn't ever really tell me everything."
"Seems like something I'd do," he said sheepishly, scratching the back of his head, "Did we ever get any closer?"
"I suppose you could say that," she said, putting a lot of effort into making her voice light and casual.
She tilted her head to the side, trying to figure out how to word it. "We had a thing, yeah." What an underexaggeration.
"That's good, that's good."
((i feel like he should remember that he had loved her, but not sure why or if she loved him back?))

He nodded and then froze, staring at the ground. His eyes grew wide and he looked at her after a minute. "I loved you," he whispered.
"Or so you'd told me every so often," she told him casually, ready to play it off as nothing if his reaction wasn't so great.
He opened his mouth to speak, but he closed it again. There was a very long moment of silence before he spoke again. "I find that hard to believe," he said, his eyebrows drawn together.
She nodded once, her voice giving away nothing of her disappointment. "I figured you might say something like that."
Addie laughed a little and gave him a reassuring hug. "If I had a dollar for every time I'd thought or heard the same thing..."
She looked away for a second, and then decided to risk it: she leaned up and kissed him. "You have no idea."
Addie smiled a little at him. "We'd been engaged for a while, actually. ((I don't remember if they actually got married yet because of his dad)) And you would always get into arguments with your dad about religion I think. You wouldn't always tell me about them."
He nodded. "And the part about my dad isn't as surprising, but I haven't talked to him in years."
