"The pack already had this amount of territory, Addie, I just became its Alpha."

"Your pack was nowhere near here when I got here. Don't you remember? Suddenly you just showed up and claimed the place, even though there was already a smaller pack here, Meadow's pack. And then you coerced her to your side and decided the land was yours."

"It was ours. That pack was not supposed to be on our lands. And I did not coerce her! She came back to my pack of her free will, I had nothing to do with it."

She gave him a look that was midway between hurt and enraged, then spat at the base of the tree and walked away, muttering something that sounded suspiciously like a curse against him as she went.

"Why'd you do that, Riley?" Ollie asked after a few moments of silence.

Crys gave him a look that questioned his sanity.
"I'm not sure," Riley told both, then jumped down from the tree and ran after her. He didn't feel at all guilty now - she had to have known it was his territory, who didn't? - but he would later, and it would be too late then. He caught up to her pretty quickly. "Look, you don't have to go."
