"I need you to take care of him.." his mother murmured Luis' eyes widened.
"Mom, mom! I can't..." he said quickly, but she held up a hand to silence him.
"Please, Luis.." she pleaded. Luis sighed.
"Fine..but where are you going?" he asked, his eyebrows drawing up. She smiled faintly.
"It's nowhere important.." she said, then turned to face Socrates.
"Arrivederla, mio angelo" she said, hugged him and kissed him on both cheeks. Her eyes welled up with tears.
"Arrivederla, mama" the boy whispered, his face still emotionless. His mother sniffed and looked at Luis.
"Take good care of him." she whispered, dabbing at her eyes with a handkercheif. Luis nodded.
"Of course.. Come on, kid." he said, beckoning Socrates over. Soc walked up to him and Luis placed a hand on his shoulder, then began walking away with his younger brother. Luis looked over his shoulder and waved good-bye to his mother, then turned back around and headed to the house.

Luis sighed.
"How am I going to introduce you to everyone, huh?" he murmured, looking down at Socrates. He did look a bit like his mother, and even a bit like himself. He sighed and walked in through the front door.
"Wait here." he said and walked to the living room.

maria had emerged from her room at long last and was curled up on the couch. the light above her head was dim.
