"They were kind enough to make there be two hallways leading into the gas room from different sides. You didn't notice it," he said, looking at Meadow, "but I couldn't tell you because then someone would hear us, I'm sure, and then they would have done something else, from which we may or may not have been able to escape, and I thought you could hold your breath long enough, so...."
