message 1: by Alice (new)

Alice (aliceg) If I'm at home and I want to read I go to bed. It doesn't matter what time it is I will go and lie on my bed because that is where I read!

When I was growing up there was a certain step on our stairs I would sit to read and also in the hallway against the radiator in there.

I will nearly always have a book on me when I go out though and will read on buses, trains, waiting rooms and anywhere else where i'm not doing anything else!

I thought I'd start this topic because at the moment work is so so so so so quiet. I have nothing to do and am glad I've brought my book with me. I envisage getting through a couple of books over the next couple of days at work!

Donna | 79 comments This time of the year it is on the sofa next to the Christmas tree with a cup of tea.

message 3: by Heather (new)

Heather (hpduck) I don't have a specific place that I read, as I read everywhere and anywhere. I do enjoy reading in bed before I go to sleep though. it is just very relaxing.

I must say though, I have developed the nasty habit of reading in the car at stop lights. I guess it is just somethig to occupy my time while waiting.

message 4: by Naika (new)

Naika (nikkibfabulous) Everywhere! Almost anytime I have a free minute, I grab my book. Sometimes, I feel like it is an addiction. But a healthy one. :-) My new favorite place is in the car when my daughter has fallen asleep. I don't want to wake her so I crack open my book.

I don't read while driving, though. Or during any other activities where undivided attention is necessary. Be careful Heather, that sounds kind of dangerous; if only because someone else may not be paying attention.

message 5: by Heather (new)

Heather (hpduck) I know. I only do it at stop lights, never while actually driving!!

message 6: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 240 comments I'll read wherever I am when I can get a spare moment. That isn't too often these days becasue I'm a stay at home mom with a toddler who doesn't like to nap! Nikki, I also read in the car when my son falls asleep (no danger- the car is usually parked in my driveway). Car rides are a way I can get my son to nap, so if I'm in the car and he falls asleep, I read for a bit. But usually, I have to try to get him out and lay him in bed so I can get stuff around the house done. Like I said, not much time for reading! I should probably be reading now instead of writing! LOL

message 7: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Here are my places I read:

Lounge - When kids are in bed in morning (if I am up early enough).

Bedroom - Where I usually get shoved when everyone else wants to watch tv (this is usually where I do my reading).

Garden - When its a wonderful summer or hot sunny day.

Public Transport - If I remember to bring my book for long journeys.

Bathroom - Can sometimes have a bath & read in bath when kids are occupied (either at school or dad has them doing stuff lol).

message 8: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Most of my reading is done in the bedroom, either before I go to sleep or during the day.

I also carry my book on train journeys to work, although unfortunately I can't read on buses or cars as it makes me feel ill.

Sometimes I read on the sofa in the living if there is no telly on.

Very rarely I try and read at work in my lunchbreak, but there are usually too many people about chattering so I can't concentrate!

message 9: by Jenny, honorary mod - inactive (new)

Jenny (notestothemoon) | 846 comments I read sat on the sofa during the day and in bed before I go to sleep.

I love reading on trains but like you Heidi if I try and read in the car or on the bus it makes me feel ill. As long as I'm not reading I never get travel sickness!

message 10: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (wildbanshee) | 10 comments I read in the bedroom also, which is where I gravitate as everyone else wants to talk, and going shhh! is rude???

message 11: by Kipahni (new)

Kipahni | 144 comments It use to be in the bath tub. But as of late it has been at a desk with e-books. Not nearly as sensual, as you can't feel the covers of an e-book or smell it's pages or caress it's spine.

I do believe I have a love affair with a good old fashion hold-in-your-hand book and it feels as though I am cheating on it by reading on a laptop.

message 12: by Alice (new)

Alice (aliceg) Oh I love reading in the bath! I do that as often as I can!

message 13: by Miranda (new)

Miranda (booksponge) | 4 comments I read wherever there is noise. I know that must sound really odd, but I can't concentrate on what I'm reading if it's all quiet. When I'm alone in my room I have to have music on!

message 14: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 52 comments I read just about anywhere: in the car (when hubby is driving), in the living room, in my bed, outside on the patio(in nice weather)in Dr's. offices, etc...I think most of my reading is done in bed before I go to sleep, though. I can read with the TV on but I have a hard time concentrating when people are talking in the same room I'm in.

message 15: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 61 comments It often depends upon the time of year. When the weather is warm, late spring, summer, and early fall, I read on my screened-in back porch, my little haven. When I have to move indoors to read, I have several places--bed, my reading chair in the living room, and my soon-to-be favorite indoor place of the extra bedroom with the futon. My married daughter has now moved all of her belongings from her bedroom and helped me organize the closet, giving me an extra bedroom in which I put a nice futon with a beautiful new cover on it. I need to find a good reading light to put on the built-in shelves, and then I expect to spend a lot of time in this room reading. And, yes, the shelves are already full of books.

message 16: by Heather (new)

Heather (hpduck) Kathy, I am so jealous! I long for a reading room

message 17: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 61 comments Heather, it's been a long time coming. My vision is of being snowed in sometime this winter and forced to retreat to my reading room to spend the day. Oh, and of course some tea or coffee and something to nibble on. Does it get any better than that?

message 18: by Heather (new)

Heather (hpduck) nope...it certainly doesn't!

message 19: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Butland (httpwwwgoodreadscomprofiles_b) In the bath, in bed, on the train, at the bus stop.... it might be easier to say where I don't read! Oh, i can't read in cars and buses, motion sickness sets in. Then, I knit.

message 20: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 61 comments Stephanie, I'm not sure why I limited where I read to my home, but I agree with you and others that have posted about reading wherever you can get some reading in. I'm probably one of the few people who actually want to wait at a doctor's office so that I can have some reading time. I do rarely go to eat out by myself and have a lovely time reading and eating, but usually I go out to eat with friends or family, so I talk instead (but sometimes the conversation is about books). When my husband was stationed at the Pentagon, my children and I would visit him in D.C. and loved to ride the Metro and read on our way to the great sights of D.C. I, also, get car sick if I try to read in a car, but I have solved that problem with books on CD. I try to always remember to include a printed book in the car, even on a short trip or just around town. One never knows when you might get stranded somewhere because of car trouble or other unforeseen events. It's interesting that I want to make sure I have a book with me, but I don't worry about medications or anything like that. LOL!

message 21: by Ellie (new)

Ellie I read everywhere, to the point where it does some times annoy people....for example if someone goes out of a room and leaves me alone for 1 minute Ill just get a page in quickly!

I never ever leave the house without a book, and then I never get bored and also I dont get stressed out when there are train/tube delays on the way to work!

But my favourite place of all to read is in the bath...I dont know why, but somehow its just the best! Although a very close second is in the garden on a sunny day!

BurgendyA | 105 comments Alice wrote: "Oh I love reading in the bath! I do that as often as I can!"

The only reading I due in the bath is audio books. I once read a book while in a bubble bath. It was great & comfortable at first. Then I accidently dropped my book into the tub. Eversince that I've never done it again. =)~

message 23: by BurgendyA (new)

BurgendyA | 105 comments Oops! I forgot to post the place that I read in my last message.

I read in several places. In my bedroom, sofa at the livingroom. During the summertime I read at my patio swin bench or at the beach lying on my blanket.

As for travelling; I read in the bus on my way to work or on plane and cars.

I also read during my lunch breaks. =)~

message 24: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (tracey1970) I read anywhere and everywhere! If I am addicted, I can not put it down!

message 25: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Moulds | 1 comments In the bath so i remain uninterupted.

message 26: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments I read anywhere anytime (unless I actually need to concentrate on what I'm doing). I've even been known to read while walking to and from the office at times and if I'm stuck in a queue I'll always pull my book out (I always have at least one in my bag...usually more)

message 27: by Epee (new)

Epee (epers) | 28 comments I have a book with me at all times and will read anywhere, especially in queues in the bank and post office which are otherwise irritating.

message 28: by John (new)

John Where do I read, everywhere. If I stop for a minute or two - pick up a book. In the car while waiting, in the bathroom, with a coffee, in commercials. There are never enough moments to read!

message 29: by Yorky (new)

Yorky Caz (yorkycaz) Mostly at the moment I read on the bus in a morning and its great, I actually wish the journey was longer! I am after one of the those amazing large bean bags that I have seen gamers use, I think that in a corner of the room would be heaven! I dont know why but it alwyas seem cosier to read when its raining outside and its dark and you have a lamp on!

message 30: by Melissa R (new)

Melissa R Green (blindreadr5674) I either read in bed, or on the couch. I do like reading outside if its a nice day. I love the outdoors.

message 31: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (pinklets) | 3 comments My favorite place to read is definitely in my bed, day or night. It is just so comfortable! I also like reading at the beach, on my porch and on airplanes! :)

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

These topics are such fun! (If only for the chance to talk about yourself?)

I love reading in the living room when it's really, really early and my family are asleep. The quiet is bliss.

Also, in bed late at night, on aeroplanes, in the car (I'm lucky in that it doesn't make me nauseous) and in the summertime perched on the shed roof.

totally agree!

message 34: by Richard (new)

Richard O'driscoll | 3 comments My favourite place to read is either in a café or on a train, ridiculous I know. Ideally I'd like to have one of those libraries you see in films, books from floor to ceiling, roaring fire and wingbacked chair.

Oh that sounds heavenly! - pannelling, window seats, dogs sleeping by the fire, hot chocolate to drink....

message 37: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Trains are my favourite places to read. Ooh need to find some hot chocolate now.

message 38: by Snoozie Suzie (new)

Snoozie Suzie (snooziesuzie) | 937 comments I thought I'd restart this thread. I love reading while I'm at the hairdressers. Some might find it rude not to talk to the hairdresser but I class it as 'me time'. About an hour of no small, my kindle, and having my hair played with. Bliss.

I also like the usual places like bed, garden, sofa, bath, but I'm not a read in a queue person unless it is the queue at the Doctor's.

message 39: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Higgins | 11 comments Anywhere. But I do most of my reading on the train.

message 40: by April (new)

April | 970 comments The idea of reading on the train is romantic! I live in Nebraska and we don't travel by train here. Where you train readers from? Do you ride the train daily? Like to work? So interested!

I have a screened in sunroom/back porch off of my kitchen. I love to sit out there and read. I hate to see fall arriving because I know the cold will soon kick me out of my sanctuary. But, I do have a "reading room" in the house. It is a 2nd living/family room only there is no TV or Radio...it is my quiet spot in the house. So, when it gets cold, I move my reading in there. I would love to be one of those people who read in bed, but I can't do that because I fall asleep!

message 41: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments I love reading on the train when I'm out and about in the city but my favourite place to read is in bed. I also like reading on the couch up against the Mister and in my library at home :) I bought a cdomfy little chair last month and I love reading in it.

I h..."

I am from Sydney, Australia and I catch the train to get to work, TAFE and pretty much anywhere else I need to go. Unless of course it is within walking distance.

message 43: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments I always read (or listen to audiobooks) on the train - the Netherlands is train crazy (no one drives to work unless they get paid big bucks) so it's how I commute to work every day. I don't mind it unless it snows, or there's a storm, or an accident, or a failure (something goes wrong at least once a week), but then as long as it's not too cold its a good excuse to read whilst waiting for the train too!

Otherwise I read everywhere - in bed, on the sofa, on the bus, in queues (yep, I've read in the supermarket queue if it's long) and the bathroom - not afraid to admit that one ;-)

message 44: by Dorottya (new)

Dorottya (dorottya_b) | 35 comments Either in my room or on public transport, most of the time. But sometimes I sit out in the park or on a city bench, or at the university building if I have a spare hour when I can't go home.

message 45: by Rodrigo25 (new)

Rodrigo25 | 12 comments I usually read in my room, i can't read on public transport because I get distracted with every single noise. I need absolute silence to read. Sometimes I also read sitting on my couch but most of the time I do it in my room.

message 46: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments Mostly in my room; also in the living room. Sometimes in the yard.
In the bathroom too (I´m not afraid to admit it either)

message 47: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11456 comments Reclining on the sofa or in bed; napping and reading in equal measure!☻

During the summer, I like to read outdoors with the birds and the trees.

message 48: by June (new)

June | 159 comments In the office/home office. I put the perfect curl up and read couch/chaise on lay-a-way for 6 months, spent a year fixing that room up and moved all my bookcases and books in there. I sit on my couch, my book buddy cat curls up on my lap and we just read for hours.

I read in bed too just not enough pillows to get comfy.

Third place is with my phone(waterproof case) in the bath for when I'm sore and just need a good soak.
