NocturnalRavings(Jodie) (mistrissmoon) | 270 comments Ok,I have two questions!

First,do manga/graphic novels count?

And second,if the RAE has the second book in the series, but I haven't read the first, can I just read the first, not count it and then read the second to count it?

Thanks! And love the challenge!

OK - firstly, I'm not sure about manga/graphic novels - will have to check...

Second - I don't see that we need to know what you read between your tracks *wink wink* So go ahead and read book 1, don't list it, and then read book 2 as part of the challenge :) Just make sure you read the first page of book 2 before you commit yourself to this line, to make sure the book is still there when you are ready to move on to it!

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Right-e-o: All clear on the manga/graphics novel, Jodie. There is no length restriction on the books; similarly there is no genre restriction. Just the need to 'follow the leader' :)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments It was said early on that we can read non-track books and they just don't count for points. So I don't think this would be a problem.

Absolutely! :)

Nicola | 649 comments Naturally the track I wouldn't mind seeing a change in now isn't doing anything!

message 157: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 236 comments This seems really interesting and I've never done anything like it so I'm excited to try it out! Just as a clarification, we don't have to read the track book right, just the first leader book?

message 158: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Hope you join us Sarah - you don't read the book that you have previously really enjoyed that you use to start your track (= 'track' book). Your first book is the one that you select from the 'Readers Also Enjoyed' list (on the right hand side of the book page) when you go to the GR page of your 'track' book. :)

NocturnalRavings(Jodie) (mistrissmoon) | 270 comments Sweet! Thanks Jane! :D

message 160: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 236 comments Thanks for clearing that up Jane! :)

Tricia Schneider (triciaschneider) | 227 comments Is it okay to read a nonfiction track? I usually have a fiction and nonfiction book going at the same time.

message 163: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments yep - whatever books you have enjoyed are fair game to form a track

Nicola | 649 comments Getting side-tracked by other challenges!

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments me too Nicola!!

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 236 comments All I want to do is read books for this tournament but I'm coming to the end of the semester so I have papers to write and finals to prep for!! Gahh! Not enough time in the day!

Thanks! This makes it easier for me to form two tracks! :)

message 168: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) I got a question. :)

I've got anthology Sugarplums and Scandal on RAE list. Can I read only one story from anthology - A Very Vampy Christmas? (it's sold separately and I already got it...)
I am guessing this could count as 1 point instead of two, but I had to check if it is allowed...

message 169: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Dragana!

Yes, you can read one story from the anthology. I'm trying to make this as accessible as possible. These lists can get tricky so why not bend it a little to fit what you have? Let's go with the 1 point for this, that sounds right.

message 170: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Hello Fran,
Thank you for being so helpful. :)
I will probably go with that option although I found alternative lists...
I don't know what is more fun, reading or making lists for this tournament, I think I revise & change my list almost every day. Always dig trough REA links and looking for other options... LOL

message 171: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Me too. I try not to plan more than a few books ahead. But I can't seem to help going through them again to see where each one leads me. I'm trying to stick to books I own already so I don't end up just reading library and free kindle books through this whole thing. My print TBR is too big for me to do that.

I know what you mean, I love the research as much as if not more than the actual reading! Love searching the RAE lists!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments It's easy to get obsessive over these challenges.

message 174: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (cheriereads) I have a question:

I just finished reading The List as part of my first track. Now I see that one of the books "Readers Also Enjoyed" is One Moment which I recently read for a different challenge and has not been a part of any of my tracks. I did read it within the challenge dates (read May 21) but read it before The List. Can I count this for points as the next on my track after The List or do all of the books in a track have to be read right after each other? (Does that all make sense?)

Thanks!

message 175: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Cherie,

Sorry, you have to read them in order. So One Moment won't work since you read it before The List, even though you read it after the challenge start date.

I hope you can find something else from the RAE list from The List- sorry again.

message 176: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (cheriereads) Ok, that's no problem. :) I should have no problem picking something else. Thanks for your help!

Any time Cherie! Thanks for joining in, hope you have fun :)

message 178: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments if I put aside a book, do I take a point penalty, or just pick another book that works on my last completed one for the track?

message 179: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments no penalty Dee, you can substitute another title from the RAE list :)

message 180: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments thanks! figured as much, but wanted to check like the good girl I am ;)

message 181: by Karla (new)

Karla can I join, or is it too late?

I thought we also said if we read a different book in the same series it only counts as 1 point - then we take our track from the book we actually read.

message 185: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments yes nicola

so if book 3 shows up for example, but you haven't read the first 2 and you opt to do book 1, then you pick your next book from the list that shows up for book 1

ɑƨħŵɑɡ ♥Team Magnus Damora FOREVER♥ (unheard) | 162 comments I have a question,

what if a book disappears from RAE list after I read it from that list? do I have to restart the track?

Nicola | 649 comments Ashwaq wrote: "I have a question,

You are good as long as it was on the RAE when you started. Keep going on the track for the book you actually read. I got caught like that in the beginning.

message 188: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Absolutely right (what Nicola said) :) So long as it was there when you started, you are right to keep following that track...

message 190: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Urgh! I am stuck on one book, and have been for about a month! No way am I going to rack up a big score for this tournament... If I really concentrate, perhaps I'll knock the book off by tomorrow :(

message 191: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Sorry Jane :(

I am totally stalled on one track. I will probably start a new track in its place eventually. I really like the discovering new titles process so I am kind of excited to ditch the old one and begin with totally new choices- don't care that much about points :)

message 192: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments The points aren't important to me either - but getting stuck on one book? Annoying! Especially as it links to a book I REALLY want to read. ...So I have to finish it :)

message 193: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I've done it! I persevered and finished that darn book! Yay!!!!

message 195: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

It was A Thread of Deepest Black by Finn Marlowe - an M/M romance - but it just wasn't my cup of tea...

message 199: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Finn's books seem to be like that - they are either love or hate - I rarely see an in between ;)

message 200: by Nicola (new)

Nicola | 649 comments Okay - I think we have answered this, but I am not sure what to do. I have completely stalled on a book - can I change it to another to fit in that spot? I will remove it from my track, and start again if it shows up.
Not sure what happened, it is usually my type of book. Too many challenges going I think!
