Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments the same goes with the points if you pick a book later in the series right...so if i'm recommended 1 and I read book 2, that is 1 point?

Yup! A book in the same series that isn't the specifically 'listed' book earns only 1 point.

I was fully prepared to spend most of the tournament in negative! But fortunately a unanimous decision by the mods saved me ;)

S (booksstarsmoon) | 220 comments Sounds like a lot of fun! Can I join now - and if I find any books I've read since the start (4/15) on the suggestions can I backtrack it? I just checked on of my favs and saw a book I finished this weekend - would that be okay?

message 105: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Welcome Suzanne!

Yes, you can backtrack. If you have a favorite book to start you off and you have read one on the suggestions list for that book after the 15th you can use it.

message 106: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Anyone else having trouble picking just 3 tracks to start? I want to start like 10. Of course what's making it harder is books I have to read for paperbackswap and loaned ebooks on my Kindle before they expire. And they don't fit into any workable tracks for me easily.

Then I can't decide which 3 genres to use.

Thanks Fran! Then I'm all set to start my first track :-)

message 108: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments @Mary - not really, I went back and looked at my books reviewed this year/last ones and thought about which ones stuck in my mind without looking at my reviews and those were the 3 I started off with

message 109: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (bd200789) I think I'll try this. I just have to pick the starter books..

message 110: by Nicola (new)

Nicola | 649 comments What do I do? I started reading Clockwork Angel this morning. I went to set up the next book on my track - and Crescendo no longer leads to it. It did a few days ago. How do I handle that?

message 111: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments so you started with Crescendo, and was using Clockwork Angel from it? to make sure I understand your question

message 112: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments If you started with Crescendo and used that to get to Clockwork Angel then the next book comes from Clockwork Angel not Crescendo.

Also I would think if Clockwork Angel came up on Crescendo when you started reading it, it should still count. I could be wrong on that but it would seem only fair if it changed after you started reading it. Maybe not if you put the book down for a month and then picked it back up.

message 113: by Nicola (new)

Nicola | 649 comments Crescendo was my lead in book. I checked the list just two days ago, started Clockwork Angel this morning.

message 114: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Nicola, the problem I see is that although you checked the list two days ago you didn't start reading CA until today, and today it's not on the list. If you started it the day you saw it on the list then it would count even if it disappeared off the list the next day.

Let's see what the other Mods say about this. My first reaction is to say that because it's not on the list when you started it you should pick another book.

Are you sure you didn't read ANY of it the other day? Maybe just the first paragraph or something? wink, wink

Yes, that's pretty much what I will say.

message 116: by Nicola (new)

Nicola | 649 comments Well I read the first few lines the first day, but didn't think that counted. So i I do not reread those lines, then I officially started it on the 18th?'I know Crescendo led to Clockwork Angel then.

We better be careful - these threads do change!

message 117: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments runs off to do paranoid check...runs back, ok, mine are still good ;)

Sorry - don't intend to make you paranoid. I just found it frustrating as it usually takes me a few days to get the books (since I naturally could not find links that included the hundred book in my book basket...)

Yes- it counts if you read some of it on the day you saw it on the list :)

message 121: by Nicola (new)

Nicola | 649 comments Great! Now I will continue it. Hope I can keep on track from now on. I will check each new book, just to be sure!
Happy Reading!,:-)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I knew I had a non-fiction book to read soon for paperbackswap when this started. When I looked it up it went to another non-fiction book I owned. I looked again when I started last night and the other book was no longer on the list. Oh well. I'll use another one to start a non-fiction track since I didn't start reading it until last night.

So moral of mine and Nicola's story: double check before you start and don't plan too far ahead.

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 809 comments I have a qusetion I haven't started reading my track one and track two but I already put a start date on the books. So can I change the tracks and it not take 10 points off. Or will it still take 10 points off?

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments This is what I get for not paying attention to instructions and rules...

"Books read can be used in other challenges outside of this tournament but not for more than one track."

What does it mean by no more than one track? I can only use books out of one of the tracks outside the challenge...?

message 129: by Nicola (last edited Apr 26, 2012 11:33AM) (new)

Nicola | 649 comments Hina,
I took that to mean you can only use the book for one of the three tracks you are running in this challenge. You may however, use books from each track for other challenges. I hope I am correct in that - or I will have to do some major reworking of my challenges!

You are right Nicola :)

It just means that if the same title happens to end up on two separate track lists you can only use it for one track. You can use all of the books you read for this challenge for any other challenges.

message 131: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Thanks Fran and Nicola!! That is what I thought of it first but since I am doing several challenges at the same time, I begin to question my own reasoning. Just wanted to make sure

message 132: by Nicola (new)

Nicola | 649 comments I think the problem is Hina - you read too much:-)! (OK - really I know there is no such thing as reading TOO much, but...) My original personal goal in this challenge was to see if I could keep up with you in this particular challenge. HA! I was eating your dust by day three I think. No offence intended --- I am really just jealous! Good job - keep reading!

Lol...Nicola, you are not the first one to tell me I read too much, but again, is there such a thing as too much?!? I am flattered about the challenge! *hehehe* I really think my problem is that I have to know what happens next and then next and by then you are at the end of the book. I was up till 1 in the morning finishing up my last book, because I had to know and I was less than a 100 pages from finishing and I just could not put it down. It helps that my fiancee is usually out of town for work, and when he is back that is the only time I slow down with the reading.
Also, there are others who are much faster than me, I think they just don't update the post as frequently as me.

Nicola | 649 comments I guess I have to find a way to ship off my husband and children, not work or socialize and read 24/7 - maybe then I can come close??

Hina - I have to know. Are most of your books in regular or e-format? I could never house all of those books. Unfortunately I have always had a "I must own the books I read" issue which I am TRYING to overcome.

Fran and Jane - I honestly know I am just dreaming, but I always encourage my students to aim high, so...

message 137: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I've been reading a lot during this, I just haven't been able to use most of what I read for this. Well I might use a couple to start tracks 2 & 3.

I have books to read for games & orders on paperbackswap, and borrowed ebooks that don't have a single book listed under Others Enjoyed. I should be caught up on all those by this weekend.

Lol Nicola, kind of extreme there. For most romance novels now, I buy the kindle edition if its available. If the author/book is new to me, I look at the reviews given, if they are on the positive side, I buy the book if not I try to get it from the library. So since I got my ipad first, I have really tried to get everything in the e-format because of the space issue. But sometimes I can't find it in e-format and my library does not have it so I just give in and order the paperback. I have dozens of boxes in a storage space because I just don't have space at home, but somehow I keep accumulating more books. I have the same issue about books, so you will see I have a list of books that I read from the library but now I want to buy them.
I can't wait to till my fiancee and I buy a house, on my wishlist is that I get a room for my office/library and I can get built in bookshelves all around for my books...**sigh** I hate keeping books in the storage.

Rachael (moosubi) | 13 comments I preplanned my tracks about five days ago, but now the books are no longer on the "RAE" list. Should i choose new books?

message 141: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Rachael,

If you haven't started the book and it's no longer on the list you should choose a new one. I'm sorry that happened on all of your tracks! If you start the book when it is still on the list and then it disappears then you can still use it.

message 142: by Rachael (new)

Rachael (moosubi) | 13 comments Alright then, thank you!

message 143: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments That's why I only jotted down some possibilities.

I haven't committed to a 3rd track yet. I can't decide what genre to make it. I read too many genres. I want to do 10 tracks. I made myself commit to 2 so far based on what I was reading for paperbackswap. One is romantic suspense/paranormal romance based the other is historical fiction based. I can't decide to start a non-fiction one or an Urban Fantasy one as my 3rd.

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Rachael wrote: "I preplanned my tracks about five days ago, but now the books are no longer on the "RAE" list. Should i choose new books?"

I gave up trying to make a list, just to see one or two possibilities that I can use as the next book from RAE and still at least one disappears.

message 145: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i'm doing lots of audiobooks for my one track and i made sure to listen to just 5 minutes of my next book before I left work today since i knew it was on the list this am
