First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. You may call me Albus if you wish to receive a detention (unless you're a teacher, of course). Otherwise, Professor Dumbledore. Great. I'm the headmaster here at Hogwarts. Leader. Boss. Head Hauncho. Moderator. Whatever suits you. Please feel free to send me a message of you have any questions.
No, I'm kidding.
Here at Hogwarts, you have the opportunity to attend classes and complete homework, interact with other students, duel, and earn/lose points for your house. Many of you are probably scratching your heads at this point saying "But how?" Well chaps, I was just about to explain, so read on!
Choosing Your Username
It's time for you to choose a username. This will be the name of your student character throughout his or her time at Hogwarts. The name of your character will be the name that appears next to your posts. For example, my name is Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore.
To change that name, click on 'edit profile.' Then, change the name found in the "First Name" text box. Whatever you type into that box will appear on your comments. For example, if you wanted your name to be 'Neville Longbottom' you would type that entire phrase into the first name txt box. Please make sure the name you've chosen:
• includes a first name and a last name • is not excessively long • does not include any numbers or symbols • is not of a salacious or sexually connotative nature • does not contain any bad words • has not already been chosen by another member
The moderators may change the name or delete an account if the name is found to be inappropriate. The name may be taken from the Harry Potter books series.
The Sorting Hat To participate in classes, you will need to be sorted into one of four houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff. Click hereto view a description of the four houses. To be sorted into a house, please click here for a simple explanation of the sorting process.
Classes and Homework
Once you have been sorted, you may participate in classes and complete homework assignments. Classes take place in the form of role play. There is a section for each class (example: "Transfiguration Class"). At the very top is the homework board where professors will post the weekly homework. To complete homework, click on the homework page and locate the homework for your year. Go to the professor's profile who teaches that class and send them a message with your homework. Copying will NOT be tolerated at Hogwarts. So please, make sure your work is original.
Also, there will be 7 additional sections under each class (labeled first years, second years, third years...). This is where the class role play will take place. Here, students will have the opportunity to ask questions, teachers can teach lessons, and tests can be administered.
At the end of each academic school year, students will be required to take an end-of-year exam for each subject. This test will be administered by the professor of each subject.
Academics
Here at Hogwarts, we firmly hold to the belief that academics are the structure for the rest of your life. Each academic school year lasts for 12 weeks. All students start as first years at the age of 11. To move on to your 2nd year at Hogwarts, you must complete the homework each week for all of the required classes that a first year must take. For each homework assignment, the teacher will give you a grade:
Passing: O - Outstanding E - Exceeds Expectations A - Acceptable
Failing: H - Horrible D - Dreadful T - Troll
You must receive a passing average in every subject, as well as your end-of-year exams to advance to the next year.
Prefects and Head Girl/Boy
Hogwarts will select a fifth year boy and girl from each house to serve as prefects, and a seventh year boy and girl to serve as the wad boy and girl. The Head Boy and Girl will be given moderator privileges (which is usually just reserved for teachers). With the role of prefect or head boy/girl comes much responsibility. The students who display the most effort, respect, and kindness will be chosen for these positions.
Professors
Once you have graduated from Hogwarts, you may apply to become a Professor or a Professor's Assistant. We have many available jobs at Hogwarts, so please click here to view our list of available positions.
House Points
Once you are sorted into your house, you will either earn or lose house points. You will earn points by answering questions correctly during the class role play, submitting an exceptional homework assignment, winning a duel, etc. The house with the most points at the end of each school year wins the house cup!
Duels
Students have the opportunity to participate in duels, which take place in the form of role play. To participate in a duel, ONE of the competitors must go here and start a new thread. The title should be ___ and ___'s duel, and the comment should be the start of the duel. The winner will gain points for their house, while the loser will lose points for their house. And if you're caught duelling by a teacher or prefect, you might both lose house points. That's only if you're caught, though.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here. And with that, I have a few last words I would like to share: nitwit, oddment, blubber, tweak. Good evening!
