ღIsabellaღ Don't believe me? Check it out! http://laurenoliverbooks.blogspot.com/ she posted a blog on it:)

Gretchen I would love to see them produce Before I Fall, as a film first. Otherwise it will just appear to be riding on the coat tails of Hunger Games. There will be to many comparisons between the two.

Arushi Well, the thing is that it's still in very early processes, it won't be appearing in theaters for a bit...which is nice. But its a good point you bring up. They still have to cast...and well, produce the movie :)

Yeah I just wanted people to know it's becoming a movie... at some point:)

Gretchen Seriously? :(

This was a mediocre book by a mediocre author.

Move aside, angsty and pubescent vampires and werewolves; looks like the era of poorly-written-teen-romance-disquised-as-dystopian-fiction has begun.

George Orwell just turned over in his grave.

Okay... If you don't like the book don't comment how bad it was. That just ruins the disscousion. We're not talking about how good the book was we are talking about it becoming a movie, so it doesn't matter if you think it sucked it has nothing to do with the topic. That just makes people mad.

Catherine IMHO, I think this will be an awesome movie! The book was so good!

I liked the book and I haven't read anything else by the author but I do kind of agree. There is a HUGE trend in YA fiction of dystopian future with romance in them - it is really getting old. I just read Brave New World for school and while I did not enjoy it (too much dialogue, not enough character development, and over use of italics and punctuation) I was amazed by how developed the dystopian world was while there was very little focus on the love aspects of the story. THAT was what made it a good dystopian novel - a warning that was vivid. While the hunger games is good and scary it also focuses so much on the romantic entanglements that the dystopian aspect gets lost in it. How did the world become this way? Apparently that isn't important.

Another thing about this whole dystopia trend is that they don't leave you wondering. In Pandemonium you're basically just told that this world she has created is bad. In Brave New World you are left wondering: "Well, maybe it is worth giving up freedom to be blissful 24/7." But in a lot of these new YA books its just "this bad and lets change it" I think a lot of young readers might not be questioning these books as they should be. Not just the books but the world, the government and the future.

While I did enjoy Delirium, I'm looking forward to it becoming a movie because I think that concept is intriguing. I wish there was more a of a back story of how the world became the way it is but we will probably never get that. I wish this new trend maybe stimulated the minds of the audience they are targeted for rather then letting them get lost in the romance of it all.

Cassidy This is soooooooo good!!! I hope they live up to the book though!

Marceline Clare Oh my goodness.!! This is my number ONE favorite book.!! and its going to be a movie.!?!? My heart just melted:) but I will have to sue someone if they screw Delirium up like they did Twilight.

Yeah, but they just finished writing the script so it'll be a while before they even cast:)

kpopfan EEEEEPPPPPPP!!!! So damn excited WOOOOW first my fav. book Divergent and now this being made into a movie!! I seriously can't wait. Hope they stick to the movie like they did to Hunger Games and not Twilight (Booo!)

Gretchen Isabella wrote: "... we are talking about it becoming a movie.

I was talking about it becoming a movie. My opinion about the movie is based off of the book. Delirium isn't the worst book ever, but I don't think it was quite good enough to be made into movie. I think that pertains to this thread... That being said, I will concede that it probably wasn't particularly insightful to post a negative critique on this thread, as most of the people viewing it probably did like the movie. I wasn't intending to cause offense.

Andrea Blanch i heard of it too, i read in some article on mtv.com and i hope they would give justice to the book.

Heather White I have to go to it! OMG, I loved this book.

Andrea Blanch Fox 2000 landed the rights in February 2011. Despite sequel "Pandemonium" hitting stores last month, few updates have surfaced regarding the film project. Lauren does say on her blog, however, that the script is "great."

Rachael What?!?!?! I HAVE to see it!!! The book was AMAZING!!!!!!

Oh okay I just thought you were just being a downer, sorry I didn't mean to be mean!

message 19: by Sam (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sam Yay! Can't wait... I just hope that it won't be a disappointment. My largest fear in movie adaptations is that it won't do justice to the book and characters. I hope they cast great actors.

Riley I'm excited to see who they cast. I'm trying to come up with a dream cast in the mean time. (Don't think I'm just basing this off The Hunger Games, but I think Jennifer Lawrence would make a decent Hana.) I'll definitely be skeptical about who they're going to eventually cast as Alex; he's got to be perfect.

Lydia Awesome! That would be great. I think Alex pettifer would play a great alex.

Hannah WHOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's what I said: Alex has to be perfect. If he's not... that'll be dissapointing. But I hope whoever they chose is perfect:)

I agree. I think they could find a much better book to make into a movie.

Marceline Clare Lyds wrote: "Awesome! That would be great. I think Alex pettifer would play a great alex."
Exactly!

Andrea Blanch Alex Pettyfer himself is great! lol :)

Melissa Nash OMG! I can't wait to she the movie since the book was so good!

Selina If this is true I am so disappointed in the world. She was such a weak Heroine.

Becky Bartholomew why do amazing, talented authors decide to ruin their work? Such a disappointment. This is my favorite book series, and no actress or actor can do this movie justice...really sad. :-(

Beth It seems like every YA book series of reasonable popularirty that has been published in the past 5 or so years is getting a film adaptation. With the money and notoriety the Twilight and Hunger Games movies are bringing in and the relatively low cost to adapt them, it's no wonder studios are willing to try milking the life out of any book under the sun. Personally I think Delirium will work better on screen than other YA book-turned-movie projects like, for example, the Mortal Instruments or House of Night (gag). The future of cinema (and I mean that liberally) is going to hold a lot of pseudo-dystopian romances starring the next crop of tween idols. (Personally I'm looking forward to the Caster Chrnoicles movies... Beautiful Creatures could do really well in the visual medium.)

Side note... you know it's bad when there is a list of 60 upcoming (mostly) YA book-to-movie projects listed on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/list/gJZl8ttpb-Q/

Noël OMG!!!! Can't wait!!!

Chace If this is gonna be a movie I hope they could utilize the concept of this book, unlike what happened to Hunger Games.

Steph Yay

Sophia I am so glad that they are making it into a movie. I really hope that they don't turn it into something totally different from the book...!!!

To be fair, the two film adaptations of Animal Farm were pretty subpar compared to the book, so if anything, I'd say George Orwell would probably roll over in his grave for that.

message 43: by Kim (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kim It's kind of annoying how almost every popular book gets a movie nowadays. I mean, sometimes it's really cool, but other times I feel like there's no originality anymore.

Sabrina okay i think i just peed myself. so excited!

Jane I wish they will cast the actors and actresses who will give justice to the characters in the book, so that this adaptation will be huge! : D

http://laurenoliverbooks.blogspot.com...

there's a faq post in that page which include about the movie
CAN I AUDITION TO PLAY LENA IN THE MOVIE OF DELIRIUM?
I'm glad that you're all as excited about the movie as I am! It's especially gratifying to know how many of you identify so strongly with Lena's character. It's comforting to know there's so many smart, thoughtful, loving--and, of course, butt-kicking--girls out there! Unfortunately, I have very little input into the process of casting; in fact, the casting decisions lie with the producers and the studio. I encourage all of you burgeoning actresses to direct your passion to local plays/productions and open auditions...and, of course, if you're down to write and star in your own version of Delirium, I'm all about it!

I guess it's fair enough to say that there are other books that deserve to come a movie and I would disagree with you on this book being mediocre but I guess everyone sees it a different way. One thing I really have to disagree with is Lauren Oliver being a mediocre author. Yes, Delirium is not an amazing, profound book - it's not my favourite book ever either. But Before I Fall is amazing (and not a trace of dystopian themes) and I don't think she deserves that judgement based on Delirium because it is not her best book by far.

Haylee' Marie I WISH my othe favorite books would be a movie like: Significance by: Shelly Crane, or The Fallen Star by: Jessica Sorensen....etc

BUT the BOOK DELIRIUM I LOVE THAT ONE I was always hoping it would be a book and it came true I just wish it will have the PERFECT CAST!!
