Mapletail padded over to the small group. "I'm happy for you, Starpaw. Keep training, and don't give up." She licked the young apprentice's head, then turning to Breezepaw. "Why don't we leave them in peace? I want to talk about your hunting techniques."

Silvernight scented something and pointed with her tail to a spot a little way off.

Silvernight nodded back. She slid down in her hunting crouch and moved slowly forward.

Runningwind pressed backwards. She would follow the prey if it tried to escape.

Silvernight jumped but the prey wiggled away.

"Alright," Mapletail lead Breezepaw into an open clearing. "See that bird, sitting on the low branch? I want you to catch it. This time, grab it's whole body, not just its tail. You'll most likely end up with a pawful of feathers."

Breezepaw nodded, frowning slightly. She looked at the bird for a second, then dropped into a hunting crouch and stalked under the tree. Stopping right before she got under the bird, and leaped, her paws and claws out. She got right up to the bird... And missed by an inch. The bird, startled, flew away quickly. Breezepaw dropped back on all fours, tail drooping. "I'm sorry, Mapletail," she meowed dissapointedly.

"It's alright, Breezepaw. You can try again. This time, jump more from your back paws, like this." Mapletail quickly demonstrated a proper jump. "Now find another bird and do that."

Breezepaw perked up slightly, peering around the clearing for another bird. After spotting one, she looked at Mapletail for the okay, and crept underneath it. She paused, tensed, and jumped like Mapletail had showed her. For a split second, she thought she would miss again. Then, somehow, her paws found the bird. She grasped it with her paws, leaving her claws sheathed. She hit the ground and steadied herself, and she bit the back of it's neck. She picked it up in her mouth and raced back to Mapletail.
