Roaringstar's smile faded. "Let me just clarify what you said. You would like to abandon your medicine cat duties, to become a warriors' apprentice?"

Roaringstar leaned forwards. "If you don't mind me asking, what has influenced your choice?"

Roaringstar raised his eyebrows. "Ah, I see. Love has driven you. A respectful choice. Well, if you are completely sure, I will have a naming ceremony for you, and assign you a mentor, at next sunhigh."

Starkit bounced up and down. "I can't wait!" she mewed eagerly. Then she thought of something. "Hey Oakpaw! That's when my naming ceremony is too!"

Oakpaw entered the medicine cats den and saw Brightcloud sorting herbs. He sat down next to her and said "I'm switching to a warrior apprentice".

Brightcloud looked surprised for a moment, then hurt. "Why Oakpaw? Have I not been a good mentor?"

Brightcloud cocked her head. "But you are little more than a kit! How, and whom could you have fallen in love with?"

"With Starkit and I don't know how but we just both really, really, really like eachother" he explained.

Starkit was by the freshkill pile, chewing on a mouse.

Breezekit bounded over to where Runningwind was sitting with Roaringkit and Shadowkit. Before she got to them, she decided that it would be more fun to surprise them. She crept quietly towards them, then jumped on Shadowkit, licking his ear. "Are you excited to be apprentices?"

Oakpaw had been talking to Starkit about being apprentices together. He nudged her "You should go get ready" he purred rubbing his cheek against hers.

Shadowkit let out a squeal of surprise. "Yes!" he mewed excitedly.


Starkit frowned. "I think she'll get over it. Shadowkit is showing a lot of promise."

Oakpaw glanced over towards the little kit. "I hope it never happens to her again though" he sighed feeling sad that his mother and father wouldn't be able to see him become what they always wanted him to become.
