Let's Talk About...Heroines With a Backbone
Rose Hathaway from Vampire Academy...she's the first one that comes to my mind. Then Grace from the Dark Divine series. Elena of Vampire Diaries somewhat fills a bit of space. Hermione Granger, one of the most notable.

That's alright Lucinda. Éowyn forgives you. :)
And yes, she is amazing. Usually people prefer Arwen but I just love Éowyn.
She suffered so much but was always so strong. She always fought for what she thought was right and we can't forget that this was in a time when men thought women could not fight.
And she was really fierce and incredible when she killed the Witch King of Angmar, Sauron's most lethal minion. The one people thought no living being could destroy. Amazing!!

Totally! Éowyn is an amazing character, though many of my friends and family will adamantly argue against her being of the same caliber as Arwen. I agree with you in the respect that it was basically a man's world - the fact she achieves the feats and freedom she does is incredible! When she killed the Witch King I was so impressed by her spirit and bravery. She proved that a woman's heart and determination is equal to, or even greater sometimes, than a man's.

Yes, I know that most of the people say that Arwen is a better heroine. I don't agree with them.
What has Arwen done?? I just saw her trying to strengthen Aragorn and saying some prophecy-like stuff.
Éowyn, like you said, fought bravely in what can be considered a man's world.
She killed Sauron's most powerful servant, the one people said no living being could kill! She fought for Rohan, for Gondor, for friendship, for love, for justice, for freedom...
Indeed - she proved that a woman's heart and determination can be stronger than a man's physical strength and other things...

Dear Lucinda,
I agree that Arwen showed a noble nature by giving up her own immortality for Aragorn. But I think that if ones loves so much another, every possible sacrifice is a small price to pay.
She said herself that she preferred to spend one lifetime with Aragorn than all the ages of the world alone. So, in my point, giving up her immortality was something that she gladly did.
Arwen was also a strong woman, I'm not saying the contrary. But people tend to forget Éowyn, which I think is extremely unfair.
Éowyn wasn't immortal so she couldn't give up immortality but she risked her own life everytime.
Arwen could die, in the end, because her fate was tied to the ring but Éowyn could die at any moment.
What matters is that, as a woman in a world of men, she stood up and faced her fears, fighting alongside men for her king, Théoden, her land, Rohan, for Gondor and for the freedom of the people of all Middle Earth.
She succeed. She did great things.
She didn't just show physical strength. The White Lady proved to be, indeed, one of the noblest people of all.

Oh, I loved it.
I love Henry.
However, I was a little angry with his behavious. He would spare a lot of suffering if he asked Kate directly if she had cheated on him with James during the Summer, if she loved him and if she wanted to stay with him for real.

Am I the only one has EVER read the Hidden Hand by Eden Southworth? It is definitely worth a read.Anyway, they are as follows:
Capitola Black- the Hidden Hand
Jane Eyre (do I really need to explain which book she comes from?)

Janie Crawford- Their Eyes Were Watching God
It is sort of a lot, but I couldn't pick!
Katniss Everdeen, Hermione Granger, Jane Eyre, Elizabeth Bennett, Anne Shirley and Josephine March.BTW I love your lists guys! But someone must represent the classics.

I get so frustrated when people suffer horribly for nothing when a simple question could spare all of that!
