Lucy I was in my 50's when a student I was tutoring had to read this book. While helping him accomplish his goal I realized that I looked forward to reading this book with him and hated the pages I was missing when I wasn't reading them with him. I finally got a copy for myself and I'm very glad I did. I have recommended it to many students since and they have all enjoyed it.

Sabrina well I am 15 and I just read it I thought it was pretty boring and short to be honest so I think it is more for someone younger... that's just me though I don't know why it's so popular but thats just me....... I love other dystopia books like the hunger games, under the never sky, and divergent if those are books you may like :/

Brenna This book is a 100% must read for everyone! It is one of those books that is for everyone of all ages; like The Boy In The Striped Pajamas or other classic books that you decide when you can read them! You must read this book! It is amazing!

You shouldn't have said that! That was a very important element to spoil =(

Yes, this is worth the read. The Giver is the first dystopian-themed fiction I've read and it remains to be one of my favorites because of its simplicity and good story. Gathering Blue and Messenger (its sequels) are also good, but The Giver is the best IMHO.

Christopher Barr Yes, worth the read. Also short so it won't take long.

Amanda It's definitely worth the read! It's an amazing, but sad book. I really enjoyed it.

Meeshe I read the Giver in... second grade. Its really good. And dont think your stupid because you might read it now. In my sith grade year I had a college reading level. It's good, diffrent, and a little.. odd. But once you start reading it you won't put it down.

They aren't a continuation, they are their own unique stories. That said, Lois Lowry leaves it up to the reader to decide if they tie in or not. I say they do!

Well, in the forth book coming out.. the main characters from the first book and second book come together... but i think there is a different main character. SO it is kind of like a continuation but the stories dont really go anywhere, but the Forth book is going to be different.

No spoilers!!!! :)
I'm looking forward to the next book. Perhaps they're meant for a younger audience, but I happen to enjoy stories about utopian/dystopian societies.
I recently read the first two books of Ally Condies, which could almost be a copy of Lois's world. But they have more of a high school romance feel to them. Worth checking out if you like this typce of story.
