Has anyone read Redshirts? It sounds like something I'd like, I'm into parody, mocking, satire...and I could see it being quite funny.I just read a blog post about Steven Erikson maybe putting out a satirical Star Trek novel himself - http://aidanmoher.com/blog/2013/09/as...
I have! It's hilarious! I definitely recommend it to Trek fans. He just won the Hugo for it too. :-)
I read the book last year. I felt it was a 2-page joke stretched out for 317 pages. The story started out with a neat little premise and a bit of a mystery, but then like the TV series Lost, it seemed the creator of the premise was not up to resolving it as cleverly as the set up. Here is my review of the book, if interested. It's not my best review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Just today I've started a new book 'The Valiant', by Michael Jan Friedman, "The untold story of Picard's first command".Unusually this book does not have an ISBN code.
David wrote: Unusually this book does not have an ISBN code.
The book is from 2001. This is about the time the ISBN became more important than the UPC. Check the barcode that's on the inside cover. Otherwise it could just be the numbers on the spine of the book.

Thanks, Andrea, but I have since discovered there is an ISBN code after all. It's not printed anywhere in the book but it IS in the records of GoodReads.
When you first described it as J L Picard's first command I thought you meant Gauntlet, but, I guess that book comes after The Valiant.I read a couple of the Stargazer series books and really liked them...but, I was getting them from the local library and they only had a few, so I kind of gave up on that series.
I've almost finished the 6 part saga of 'Mere Anarchy' omnibus. I got it from our local library a couple of weeks ago. Just this last Saturday I got 2 more books that I'd reserved come in so I have another couple of books to read during the coming weeks! They are: 'ST Terok Nor: Night of the Wolves' & 'ST Terok Nor: Dawn of the Eagles', both by S.D. Perry & Britta Dennison.
Hey David! Just a quick word of warning: Night of the Wolves and Dawn of the Eagles are books two and three of a trilogy. The first book, Day of the Vipers by James Swallow, is a really great read and not to be missed!Happy reading!
Thanks very much for the warning, Dan! :-))I realise they are a trilogy but it doesn't seem like the 1st book is available from my library. The two books I have are on loan from our local library. Now I think about it I may have missed it because I was searching by author, S.D.Perry, & I didn't realise that 'Day of the Vipers' was by James Swallow! I'll do another search. I'll also let you know if & when I find it.
Thanks again! :-))
Hi Dan, I've been along to my library's catalogue & they have it in stock! :-)) So I've put a reserve on it & it will probably be waiting for me on Saturday.Without your input I might well have missed it!
So once again my thanks go to you! You have been most helpful! :-))
I also did a search for 'The Crimson Shadow'by Una McCormack but they haven't got it in our library nor in the county's other libraries. :-((
The Crimson Shadow is a new release; it only just came out last month. It might be super popular, or you may need to request them to purchase it. :-)
That would explain why there are no books available to mooch on BookMooch! I doubt they will want to buy it at the library as everybody's purse strings have been pulled so tight with the economic crisis of the last few years they hardly have the money to remain open!
Is the series 'The Fall' a new one? I've seen at least four book that fall under that title.
Yup, The Fall books have only come out in the past few months. It ties several series together again. :)
The Fall, book three's release date was October 29. I have a page that outlines the new releases. Here's 2013, and 2014. :)
I love these lists. I use them all the time :-D Thanks for all the work you put into them (and your blog) Dan!
Hey, it's all for my own enjoyment! Anything else is just icing! :) Thanks for reading it, and the kind words! I'm glad it's useful for people.
I got an email on Saturday from the library telling me the book I'd requested was ready to be picked up. I went along to pick it up this morning. Now I have all three books of 'Terok Nor'! :)
Ok after a month or two break and an abandoning of my plan to do the DS9 books in order I am ready to dive back in to ST. First person to reply can pick my next book for me, as I have no idea which book to pick for myself.

It has neat DS9 connections and I recommend it. But all time pick is "Prime Directive"
I've been slogging my way through Enterprise: Romulan War: Beneathe the Raptor's Wing since September. It's a good read, but it's got so much information that I can't read it quickly. It's like reading a very thorough history book.
Because of that, I haven't been able to pick up another Trek read. It means I'm falling behind on all the great new releases!

I found myself bored & doing what I most dislike - skim reading many pages & even jumping entire pages - I was that bored by it!
It wasn't until about chapter 20 it began to feel a little more interesting. I stopped skim reading & jumping pages around about there I think. Even so it took me longer to get through the book than I'd imagined.
Shame, because after your recommendation, I really looked forward to reading it.
I'm now on book three. Like book two, it is much more promising & I've only read the first 50 pages or so at present.
If I'd "read" Book 1 first I might not have wanted to read the other two!
Thanks, Dan. I did find book 2 quite interesting & now that I've read a few chapters of book 3 I'm finding it quite interesting.

How was the "Time to..." series? It's been on my list for a while-- but I've been dancing around it.
I liked the 'time to' series too. Something possessed me to read the last one years ago and a middle one a few months before my november post. I finally decided to break down and read the series. Spans a longggg time. Not a bad series tho.

Hey folks, me again. So no I wasn't waiting around I found a book or two, but am back in my slump so lets do this again, first responder tells me next trek book to read.On another note I recently found a great podcast for Star Wars books, and I was wondering if anyone knew of anything similar for Star Trek?
How about 'Chains of Command'? ST NG by Bill McCay & Eloise Flood. I found the book to be very interesting! :)
Literary Treks from the people at Trek.fm is a great podcast about the book side of the Trek universe. They also discuss the comics. http://trek.fm/literary-treks/literar...

The best trek book podcast I listen to is Ten Forward. They often do book talks with the authors, and that is always fun.

This one always has great information, and I love the author interviews. But I find the hosts too dull and dry to listen to.
They also often pronounce titles wrong, even when an author has corrected me, and that turned me right off.

where should I start I love TNG but I'm not apposed to others. I thought about The Delta Anomaly but from what I've seen they are poorly written.

Sorry I haven't been around in a long time but the truth is I haven't had any ST books to read! The ones I reserved in our local library haven't turned up, a couple of weeks ago I reserved a few more but they still have to appear here. They don't have any I've not read in our library - in fact most of the ones they DO have are the ones they brought in for me! I haven't found any in the charity shops we've visited over the last 6 months either! :( We been to other towns in that time & visited many charity shops with no luck. :( Even on BookMooch it seems there are none available on my wishlist! We really ought to do our very own swaps between members I think! What about it guys - are you up to swapping?
I just burned through the first few Voyager relaunch books and am now working on the Mirror Universe anthologies. Having fun with both series so far.

As I had already read the 6th book in the omnibus a few weeks before I received the book from you I didn't read it a 2nd time around.
I've now started reading 'Avatar' which is set on DS9 at a point after the war with the Dominion has ended.
