message 352: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) I went to Michigan to visit family and friends, and then over to Gettysburg for a few days, toured the battleground there. That was amazing! :)

message 353: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments Oh, I've heard the battlefield is really cool. I want to go really badly.

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments Aww, how sad.

This Saturday I am going to a Regency ball, (A.K.A a Pride and Prejudice ball) and am making a new dress for it. I am very proud of my work and it is by far the best dress I have ever made so I am going to chat about it a little bit here.

It is pure white linen with a green/blue linen over coat. The coat is a Spencer jacket with no sleeves or collar for those of you who are familiar with regency era clothing. I embroidered the sleeves myself with white thread. By keeping the dress completely white I can make a bunch of different coats, vests and trim to turn the dress into a dozen different styles and can be worn all the time. I intend to wear it quite a bit fir church.

Anyways that is what I have been doing this week. I'll put up a picture when it is all done.

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments I am still having trouble working out what all the words are, but "Radioactive.....Radioactive" part? That I have got down.

message 370: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Hahaha Lyrics.com is where I check out song lyrics to see if they're clean and stuff ;)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments *Pfftt* Well yeah, I guess I could look it up.........But then where is the fun in deciphering the words?

message 372: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) I like to know what people say so I can tell my mom if a song is good or not, and also to know what my sibs are hearing on the radio.

message 373: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments I suppose that is a very good reason. I am usually alone when I am listening to the radio so I don't have to worry about my sibs too much, and my Mom does not care for any modern music at all so she wouldn't care. But in looking out for others you become more aware of the evil in your own life so that is cool.

message 374: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) And also, I like to know what someone is saying in a song before I decide if I like it or not :P

I'm just going to jump in here hoping I'm in the right place for help. I see we're reading Sense and Sensibility this month and as a newbie to the group I want to get off to a good start with you wonderful people. I just finished the book 3 weeks ago as part of my "Classic Sunday Reading". I pick a classic novel and curl up with it each Sunday afternoon until I complete it; no pressures or deadlines. It is so relaxing and now the pressure is on, thanks to my various book clubs. Ha ha. I checked on the posting. Do the discussions start after the book is completed or do you discuss as you go? Thanks to anyone who answers my question.

message 376: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments Hi Darlene, Sounds like you have a good thing going there. (I watch Top Gear on Sunday afternoons. :D)

I like to discuss the book as I go and some only like to weigh in when they have finished it so it goes both ways. I try not to put in too many spoilers until the end of the month, but if someone mentions it then go right away and chat away.

This is the perfect place to ask for help, nice job :D

message 377: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you so much for the help. Much appreciated.

message 378: by Amir (new)

Amir Nakar How 'bout a new book?

message 379: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments I am listening to a new book! The Paradise War it is really good. There is a great amount of detail of small things,t he scenery, cups, what the weather is like, and the story is so good I am readly to grab the author by the neck and shout at him "Get back to the story already!!!" but I am really enjoying it.

message 380: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments Oh but of course you meant the new book of the month, my apologies! I completely forgot it is October already. Sorry for dropping the ball, the new book poll will be up today.

message 381: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Going to say a goodbye here. I'm getting busier with my writing and school now, so no more time for groups. Have to say though, I've had a blast in this one, and will miss you all!! :)

message 382: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments Aww I am so sorry to hear it Tabi. Study hard! I will miss you. Drop in anytime if you wish.

Gene (ewdupler) | 255 comments I mentioned on one of the other threads that I've been listening to some of the classics on audio because I found a source that's an awesome deal.

For those interested, Little Women is free from Amazon this month (November). If you buy the book from them for $0.00(which you can read at http://read.amazon.com/ for free), you can also download the audible audio book for free, also.

I haven't listened to this book yet, but I've generally found that the audio books from Audible have been pretty good.

Let me know if you stumble across any other audio books that you enjoy. I find that my 30 minute ride to work is much better when I get to listen to a good book!

message 384: by Gene (new)

Gene (ewdupler) | 255 comments I'm a bit excited. Finished The Color Purple the other day and recently saw it will be on TV later, so I DVR'd it. Hope to watch it this weekend to see if it's as good as the book was (even if it didn't really qualify as a "classic" by our group's standards).

message 385: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments I am reading a book right now that also does classify as a "Classic" but it is really good. Interview With The Vampire is incredible. The story,t he wording, the emotion is all so gripping. I saw the movie a year or two back and I remembered thinking "Cool, but a little slow and boring." And not that anything very different happens in the book, it just seems ever so much more interesting.

The book is awesome. The movie was terrible. As memory serves, the sequel, The Vampire Lestat, is even better.

message 387: by Steve (new)

Steve mitchell Interview was a great book, I didnt think the movie was horrible?

message 388: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments Was the movie an injustice? I will have to watch it again after I have finished the book.

message 389: by Steve (new)

Steve mitchell as we all know, no movie can be anywhere near as good as the book, you have to cut so much out, but as books to movie goes it was pretty good I thought.

message 390: by Gene (new)

Gene (ewdupler) | 255 comments It's been a long time since I saw the movie and I had read the book about a year before. As I recall, I couldn't get over Cruise as Lestat. I don't remember Louis being cast much better (Brad Pitt.) Apologies to their fans, but the mental picture I had of both characters when I read the book didn't fit the roles I saw portrayed.

I thought that the timeless, asexual eroticism of vampires that seemed prevalent in the book was downplayed in the movie. I thought the choice of two rather macho actors robbed that character trait which seemed essential to the characters in the book.

Maybe another viewing would help, but I admit I'm not a huge Cruise fan to begin with - I think he's too typecast (Thanks, Top Gun.)

With all that said, I'm horribly critical of movies when I read the book, first. (Maybe with the exception of The Hunger Games, which I liked as both a book and Movie. Yes, I read the books, first.)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments Found this really funny saying today, thought I would share it.

"Can't dance? Write your name in the air with your booty.

BOOM!

Next problem?"

message 392: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments Hi Bob, I wanted to let you know I replied to your comment on this months poll, in case you don't see the notification. I almost never see the notifications on poll comments. Sorry it took me so long, I wanted to really think about why I believed the book to be rubbish.

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) | 3184 comments Hi Holly! How's it hanging'?

Anyone know of some goods books about the Ottoman Empire? I was talking about something the other day and was struck by how little I truly know of the history of the middle east.
