Thaddeus Nowak (thaddeusnowak) | 11 comments Hi all,

I wanted to share something big that has happened in my career and wondered how many other authors here have had similar experiences.

I am honored to have been asked to speak at a local Jr. High School and talk with the students about writing. They are going to give me a tour of the school and have even setup a poster and asked for essays to be written for why they should be able to meet me in person.

It feels great and wonderful to be on the other side of the table, but at the same time, it is such a different experience. Normally, I'm the one hoping to meet my favorite author or celebrity.

This opportunity has meant that I needed to dust off my public speaking hat, something I have done a few times, but not on a regular basis. The fact that I may be speaking to as many as 200 students is thrilling.

In writing and preparing the speech I am planning to give, I realized I was just a touch older than these students are when I first got the bug to be a writer. It is a good, and very sobering feeling, to realize that I might actually be able to influence the next generation of writers.

I had never really considered what the impact of my writing might be when I started writing. Primarily I had been thinking about what I needed to do to make my book a success. Now chance and timing might make this a much more rewarding endeavor than I had originally envisioned.

I was wondering if others have encountered similar opportunities as a result of having a published book.

What has made this so amazing is that it's not even been two full months since Mother's Curse became available.

Have you given your presentation yet? How'd it go?

Thaddeus Nowak (thaddeusnowak) | 11 comments It went very well. I got to speak with a handful of students in the library for a question and answer session. Then when that was done, about 200 students for a larger talk about writing, followed by more questions and answers.

I really enjoyed doing it. The students were motivated and really engaged. I will do it again if I get a chance.
