Who else is behind?

Pssst, Janice....novellas are the way to go.

Great idea for next time. I'm thinking that An Instance of the Fingerpost would have to be offset by many novellas and short books of poetry, me thinks.
Gaeta1 wrote: "Are you having problems with Fingerpost?"I haven't started it yet. I'm thinking of reading it this summer when I hope I'll have more time available (ha ha).
Gaeta1 wrote: "Gaeta1 wrote: "Are you having problems with Fingerpost?"It's actually a faster read than it looks, especiaaly since it is broken into sections. Novellas, if you will."
Good to know. Thanks. I know it's a very popular book.
I'm 14 books behind. I should be able to fix that soon, though. When I was coming home from my vacation, I stopped in a used bookstore and found a biography on the last Empress of China that I plan to read for China.
I'm 5 books behind due to moving but should get caught up now that the move is done and my vacation is coming up. On the other hand Diablo III is launching on May 15th...

I also forsee my reading time going out the window on that date.

See you on Battle.net!

It looks as though several of us will be continuing this into next year: there are a lot of countries.
I'm completely behind. I've always been a fast reader but the last few weeks I've had such hectic weekends sometimes I don't even get to crack open a book. But I think I can still catch up this summer, at the pool while the kids play in the water.
Val wrote: "I got back on track by including some short story collections in my list, then just reading one or two for now. I have the rest of the collections to revisit and read later, like a return trip after a city break...."Exactly, they're are commercial breaks between novels.

This is a challenge I really want to enjoy, and I can't do that if I rush through books. I am so glad others feel the same way!
I'm 3 books behind, and keep adding books to my AtW shelf so have about 90 on it and it's growing still. Anyway, I add to my list when I read a book so I can keep track of my travels. I'm not worried whether I manage 52 or not I'm just enjoying the trip

Ah Chelsea, there will be challenges for years to come! Bless you for you courage and perseverance. Are you by any chance going to publish these lists here at GR?

I'm assuming that you'll be doing the states in Aus too? Otherwise your list will only have 2 on it. That being said, I live in the Australian Capital Territory which comprises of one city, so will happily keep an eye out for you for any local authors. Only one I can think of off the top of my head is my old English teacher,Geoff Page, but he's a poet.

OY, I haven't finished a book (til today) since April. Miraculously, I'm only 1 behind, because I was so far ahead before...

Just what I was thinking of doing myself Chelsea! I think I'll set one up for AU and see if I can find the others. If not, I'll start them. Or we could all work out who will set up what. :) I'm 4 behind for this one atm, but I'm reading Glue for Scotland and that it a heavy tome ... BTW this challenge is improving my geographic knowledge ... :)
I like the idea of an UK county trek. I am such an anglophile that I end up doing a ton of Brit Lit. But I'm having so much fun with the whole world that it is tough to prioritize!!!
There are 53/54/55 countries in Africa depending on which ones are recognized. We haven't designed a challenge, but my Africa group has been doing a Tour since 2008 in alphabetical order. We changed from a country per month to two months per country so we will be at this for years. We are currently in Kenya. This is one reason I am behind here...I "languish" in specific countries--this year it's the Middle East, certain African countries, and Japan.
Ooh, Marieke, that sounds great too. I'm definitely more into African lit now that I have been doing these worldwide challenges for a couple years. Will have to check that tour out....
It's fun, Beth. This year we also started a project for contemporary lit. The tour is country specific (so includes travel memoirs, journalism, European writing) and the contemporary lit project focuses on African writers but the subject matter doesn't matter (they can write about Africa or anything outside Africa). The group is called Great African Reads...sorry for not linking, I'm on my phone. :/
There are entirely too many good groups as well as good book suggestions here. I need 48 hour days now to keep up with everything.
Yrinsyde wrote: "BTW this challenge is improving my geographic knowledge ... :) ..."Mine too and especially history.
And I'm finding I am enjoying my Chinese and Japanese selections far more than I ever would have thought. I think I'll be reading more in both areas in the future. I feel that I'm learning more about world history in general which is great. And I haven't read much at all of South America yet and only a little of African lit. What a wonderful world of literature.
I'm behind, because I'm leaving some of the books for winter, and am reading some Chick-Lit in summer. It will be nice, reading about warmer countries, when it's cold outside :).
I just started so i am real behind. i hope we keep this group going into next year and maybe the next after that.

I like your idea, but I'm going to reverse it. Since I live in the desert I'm going to look for books that take place in snowy/icy parts of the world. Maybe it'll make the summer more bearable.
Josey wrote: "I just started so i am real behind. i hope we keep this group going into next year and maybe the next after that."I have a feeling that something like this will be going for a while. There are plenty more countries out there and people like me who set smaller goals (mine is 30). And it's fun and really opens up the reading world. There are other groups with variations on our theme too.
Josey, I've been working the country list since 2007 or '08. This group will be around for awhile.
Osho wrote: "Josey, I've been working the country list since 2007 or '08. This group will be around for awhile."Glad to hear it! I'm on #7 right now so I'm way behind but I'm really enjoying the travel. Right now I am in Iran listening to The Saffron Kitchen. I love how groups like this get me to read outside my normal genres. :)
There is something wrong with the challenge report. Everytime I look at it, I'm behind another book. Sheesh!!I hope to solve that problem quickly. Three of the books I'm currently reading will get that number moving in the other direction. I hope.
I'm 7 books behind .. I blame Glue! I'll have some short ones on hand to catch up soon, as soon as I get this non-fiction book about Iceland out of the way. :)

I'm behind too. I tried to pick out some short books when I was at the library yesterday to solve that problem.
I was going to try to finish my last bunch by the end of this month, but I've decided to extend that to the end of 2012 because I have other books I'd like to read as well.
