@Rebecca - some books are tedious to read or have so much pages. I have a couple of those on my list too. I try to read at least 10 pages a days in those kind of books and then switch to more easy to read ones.

The idea of reading more books from around the world is too interesting for me not to want to join in. Should there be a 'Backpackers' sub-category for those of us doing our world tour at a slower pace?

Anyway, who knows, maybe there will be another challenge for next year!

Exactly what I am doing so I don't really consider myself "behind". I'm just reading to expand my horizons a bit in between some other reading. When I reach 52 so be it. I know I will someday and for me that's enough of a challenge.

But I agree with Lorifog, I'm really reading to expand on what I would ususally chose and find some new authors/genres, so I'm not behind in that at all.

I agree! My goal is the 52, but I'll make changes to get the quality of content over quantity.

That's what my intentions are too. I found already a great many authors of which I want to read more.

I'm hoping to read the remaining, oh, 18 I think, on my world list by the end of July. I'm slightly behind because I've been reading books for countries I've already visited. But I started with a 190 book advantage!

Osho, do you know how many countries there are in the world, I don't, but you're quite a traveller. ;)
The list at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_... gives UN member states and some disputes (includes generally agreed-upon states, such as Israel, and less-recognized states, such as Abkhazia). It doesn't include, say, Hong Kong. "193 member states and one observer state in the United Nations, and 13 other states."

Very helpful, Osho.

Many of the books on my list are very serious, so I spice it up with some light reading on the side as well, (and just read what I want to :-)

We seem to have a similar plan, Louise.

I do have a couple others kicking around though, so I'll probably catch up -- eventually!

I got behind because I am not buying any books, only borrowing them from the library and I have had to wait a long time for a couple of books. I could have skipped ahead in my route but I want to stick with my list so I guess I'm paying the price for being so fixated with the reading order.

We are definitely in the same boat, Navdeep and that's 'The Black Pearl', obviously. In the spirit of Captain Sparrow and his arch-nemesis, the amazing Captain Barbossa, we've lost our way to find out where we really need to be!

Dont feel bad Navdeep. I just went to check out my list and it somehow got deleted, so now I have to figure out how to reconstruct my list, which I think makes me officially in dead last place.

My book club is reading The Sandalwood Tree which is set in India. I have What the Body Remembers: A Novel on my list for this challenge. I'm going to have to swap it out so that the books that I am reading are applied to the challenge whether or not I had intended them to be. Geesh, I hope that made sense.

What??? Oh, man, see if you can find all your books by going to the Master List.

I totally failed at keeping a blog. :(

Mine have been a little wonky but I'm so busy I haven't worried about it.

Few and the updates that I do receive are just a string of numbers.

There is a group read calendar listed under discussions which will list all of those that are scheduled. Did you have particular books in mind?

Good idea Mikki! I will check out the master list. At this point, I'm just going to try to include as much of what I actually have read this year in my list, but that won't help all that much since all I ever seem to read is UK stuff. I need to figure out how many counties there are in England and do a 52 counties read or something. Maybe next year!

Could you recommend the book about Queen Elizabeth II. I like to know more about Great Britain's contemporary history.

Or maybe adjust the books? The list can easily be changed to include smaller works -- novellas, poetry. At the end, I think that my actual read list will look considerably different from my originally intended!

That's what I do regularly. Initially I picked large volumes or difficult-to-read books. Now I've added some YA, and Fairy Tales. It's nice to shift and amend your booklist.

Oh thanks for the heads up Mikki! I'm going to go look now:)

How are you all handling books that cover multiple countries? I am thinking of some of the Train books and such.
Was there a group read on The Poisonwood Bible already? I know there is a group read coming up soon for a Japanese book.

Yes there was a group read on The Poisonwood Bible. You can find the link under "group reads" a the group's main page.
