Chisom I mean seriously i loved Seneca and his sexy beard through out the whole movie but i'm pretty sure he didn't die in the first book so how come Snow made him eat the 'Death Berries' in the movie? Did he even die at all in the whole hunger games series? :/

Nya Tomlinson-Horan-Malik-Payne-Styles He died in the first book. We just didn't know until the second book.

Becky yeah he died by the second book, but we never found out how. Spoiler for the second book --> (view spoiler)

Angela because he let katniss and peeta both be the winners. snow wanted them to die, or kill each other

Haidi It was punishment for him letting Katniss make a mockery of the Hunger Games and for showing the world that the Capitol can't control her.

Gretchen It was a bit of a spoiler for anyone who has not finished the series. I am not sure why the director chose to reveal that fact other then maybe to highlight how serious of an issue Katniss is now in. She is more in danger now then she ever was in the games. I always got the impression too that they hung Seneca. Somehow I doubt they would have let his death be painless. It was good movie imagery and editing though to have the bowl of berries sitting on the lone table.

Just a Girl Fighting Censorship i loved that they included that in the first movie since that would be when it actually happened.

Christina I always assumed he was hung or executed by firing squad, but I thought the bowl of berries was amazing. I think it highlighted the cruelty of President Snow, which we didn't otherwise really see in the film (he was kind of a weak character in the film IMO). Also, I think they put it in, as Gretchen said, to highlight the seriousness of Katniss' actions, and I guess to signal to those in the audience that hadn't read the books that there is more to come, that the story doesn't end with Katniss and Peeta going back to District 12.

Can you explain what you mean? I don't get it

Becky Socrates was forced to commit suicide by drinking a cup of hemlock which is a berry. Seneca was presented with a bowl of nightlock with which to kill himself

Lea When Snow visits Katniss in the second book...doesn't their conversation insinuate that Seneca has been killed? He was killed because he f**ked up the Hunger Games.

Kirby what did you guys think about the movie having haymitch give seneca the "two winners" idea?

That was a good twist having him killed in the first movie. Especially the irony of using the same berries that Katniss used against the Capitol. And I love the parallel to Socrates, too, although I really noticed it just now.

i liked it, i liked all of the scenes they did outside of the arena that we didn't see in the book because we were with katniss.

that is what a book movie should be, it should add to the experience of the story while maintaining its integrity

AMEN! The movie was WELL done! I went and saw it twice! They made all the right moves!

Melody By letting them both win, he made the Capitol look weak! President Snow probably preferred that he let them both die to show that the Capitol will not tolerate any rebellion. Sencera Crane got caught up his own game. And with that weakness, he ensured his death. But, luckily, he did, or else the rebellion wouldn't have happened!

I think that it shows that the Capitol is not as perfect as they claim to be. That they are open to bias.

Julia Well, they didn't show him actually dying. I think they had to give the non-readers a reason to be a little confused so that they would go see the second movie when it came out.
