Scott | 2 comments Looking for a book I read years ago. Post apocalyptic novel, had an astronaut stranded in a space station... he would broadcast back to earth.

Peter Meilinger | 469 comments Do you remember anything else about the plot? What sort of apocalypse was it? Man-made such as nuclear war, or alien attack, or something else? Were there any other characters? When did you read the book?

Off the top of my head, I can think of two books that might fit your description, but I doubt it's either of them because the astronauts were only minor characters.

World War Z - there was one character who was trapped on a space station during the zombie apocalypse. He and his partner helped to coordinate communication for people back on Earth.

Lucifer's Hammer - the apocalypse was a comet strike in the ocean. A space shuttle or similar was in orbit at the time, and the astronauts stayed up there for awhile before landing and joining the main plot.

Josie Kelly | 3 comments Scott - I think I'm trying to find the same book. The astronaut initially was in orbit with his wife when the bombs went off on earth. They were left stranded together initially but she later died, leaving him alone broadcasting to earth.

I can't remember any of the other characters even though the astronaut himself was only a very minor character - seems it left a big impression on me. Would love to read it again if I could only find out what it was!

Josie Kelly | 3 comments I've found it! It's Dr Bloodmoney by Philip K Dick. My mind is now at ease. The astronaut character is called Walt Dangerfield.

Thanks, Shanna. I don't think we can call this one solved since the OP hasn't come back to confirm. But I'm not sure if it belongs in "possibly solved" or "query abandoned". Anyone?

Shanna--the person who's book was found is NOT the OOP. The OOP has not responded about if any of the suggestions are correct.

Scott | 2 comments Sorry I haven't responded... I just kept putting it off. Josie is correct, the title initially didn't sound familiar. But when I read the Wikipedia synopsis it all came back to me. It is Dr. Bloodmoney.

Thank you!

Awesome! Thanks for letting us know, Scott. I'll move this to solved now and shelve the book.
