How important is it to you when you buy/read a book that it has a prologue and a epilogue to the story?
I have to admit when buying a book it's cover first, then I look for the both above. I like a prologue because it can really set the mood for the book. And I love the ones that use a "sneak-peak" ending without giving anything away.As for the epilogue give me one that says.."5 years later" I dont want a rip off one as "and so they married" I want to know just a tad more!

I'm the same. I love the prologues, especially if they're set in the future to set the mood, and then the story itself backtracks.

Epilogues I really don't care for. So many of them, as you said, are a "5 years later and they're married" rip off. The babies and baskets of kittens same old-same old.

Me: Read back cover. Open to about roughly 1/3 to 2/3 of the way through a couple times. Look at the writing (adverbs? long paragraphs?). Make a decision. :D"

Well..your easy to please! LOL!Wish I could do that!

I also hate the ones that leave you hanging..sooo is there a sequel? Years go by...like Frenchman's Mistress by Irene Michaels for sure I thought there would be another :(

Tara | 21 comments I like epilogues, the whole closure thing. Not a fan of prologues though.

I rather enjoy prologues if it reveals an angle to the story, that the hero/heroine cannot rightly reveal to inflict us with remorse and/or understanding of their plight. "You just don't get it! Wait.. this is why he's molesting you; his mother beat him with a hanger in the lingerie aisle at Wal-mart!" LOL

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 75 comments Whether or not a book has a pro/epilogue won't affect my decision on whether or not to read a book, but I do like 'em. Give me some introduction before the story, and then give me a nice wrap-up, and I'm happy.
