Justin (justinbienvenue) | 792 comments I've thought about making a Youtube Book Trailer..How does it work? Im wondering if it should be done professionally or if you just put it together yourself with whatever u have..but does it get taken seriously? Just curious

message 8: by Richard (new)

Richard Stephenson (richard_stephenson) | 19 comments I made mine without help. Figured it would be best to keep it simple. Just made it with Powerpoint and put a soundtrack behind it. Converted it into a video and uploaded it.

Anyone can do it.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 792 comments Questions- Do Book Trailers fair well and generate readers from YouTube? Has anyone had success doing this? Is it an easy process and does it have to be professional looking or can it be silly?

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) Justin wrote: "Questions- Do Book Trailers fair well and generate readers from YouTube? Has anyone had success doing this? Is it an easy process and does it have to be professional looking or can it be silly?"

It's hard to judge the impact that a trailer can have, but I think it's fair to say that they can't hurt.

You can make a respectable looking one with Windows Media Player. They can be quite fun to make once you get the hang of it.

I think it helps to have a trailer to send with your PR information. People will take a moment to watch a trailer and if they're intrigued they might dig deeper.

V. cool with the music slowly rising in intensity. Friendly feedback: try shortening the duration of each of the titles with text that make up the interior of the book trailer. Simple words on a black background are not the most visually stimulating, but you have high tension words and they could easily have more impact if they moved on to the next faster.

Also, since no one can access links from a YouTube video, it's confusing to have them displayed as links. If you want someone to read more on Twitter, they need your Twitter handle, not a link. And same with your Facebook page.

Cheers.

Well done. I couldn't quite follow the captions in the middle, so that left me unsure of what was being given as the book hook, but everything else worked well.

Nice. The voice-over narrator voice was awesome. Yours could almost be a bit longer to sell it more [smiley].

Mike, that first one does a great job of hooking the suspense and tension factors, it makes the book look v. [BAM] exciting. The second one spends so much time telling us about the tropical island paradise, that it leaves us waiting until the video is over halfway through before you get to the plot hooks. So consider bringing the second one up to snuff with the first in that sense.

Also, maybe see about getting a friend to do the voice-overs. As the author we can't get as detached sometimes as needed to really sell the script.

Those are just suggestions, take what you like and ignore the rest.

Underneath gets you in the gut. The music is so visceral, the effects atmospheric, and the words tap into universal fears. Thumbs up. The other one says too little. A guy handcuffed to a chair and the question of who did it to him isn't enough to make us care. Does that make sense? The video is really short so you can easily add so we can get the chills like in the other one {smiley].

message 49: by Amber (new)

Amber (unchangeling) | 39 comments Elaine wrote: "My first attempt at a trailer and would love feedback.

Looks good. You've also got a strong catchphrase for the book, which is no easy thing (the three, two, one). My one comment is that you have all these review comments, but they are unsubstantiated—I mean, they 'look' like they were just made up, because you don't list their source. That could throw a question of credibility on the whole thing, so you might want to attribute every positive review comment so people don't get the wrong idea.

Cheers.
