César Lasso (cesarlasso) | 15 comments I'm quite new in Goodreads but a bookworm, a librarian for Shelfari, a linguist specialized in Arabic, Spaniard living in Portugal and bilingual with Portuguese, and more or less fluent in six languages.

My reads are not precisely bestsellers so I would frequently need to add my books manually, but I'm having difficulties to do so. Importing books is not working for me (or am I missing something?) and to add books manually the message I am getting is that I should have my email verified. How could I get my email verified?

Could you please help me?

Importing books won't add them to the GR database; it's a way to add books already in the database to your personal shelves.

César Lasso (cesarlasso) | 15 comments Thanks to your contact and the link you provided, my email has been verified.

I'd like to show my Spanish books with a correct capitalization (not all initial letters in capitals) and accents. Can I help to improve certain details or at least show my own titles in an improved form?

Accent marks are fine, but I'm not understanding what you mean about capitalization.

César Lasso (cesarlasso) | 15 comments One example. You've got the following book in your database (and by the way I own the DTB)

Quimera De Al Andalus,La

I'd like to add it to my books shown on Goodreads in the correct form, according to Spanish cataloguing rules and also as shown on the book cover:

La quimera de al-Andalus

Portuguese, unlike Spanish, capitalizes the initial letter of "important" words of a title, but I'm showing a book I am reading now in incorrect format:

Entre A Cristandade E O Islao, Seculos Xv Xvii: Cativos E Renegados Nas Franjas De Duas Sociedades Em Confronto

It should be:

(title) Entre a Cristandade e o Islão (séculos XV-XVII)

(subtitle) Cativos e Renegados nas Franjas de duas Sociedades em Confronto

I mean, there's an excess of initial capitals including unimportant words like prepositions and conjunctions. It looks odd and incorrect.

The following is "unofficial" --just my own and personal explanation of why I was elected librarian for Shelfari --because the standards and criteria for cataloguing English titles were absolutely clear, but I might contribute to correct and fix titles in other languages.

Thank you for your patience and for orienting me as a rookie here :)

All of those sound like fine corrections.

César Lasso (cesarlasso) | 15 comments Is there a way to request title changes in the sense of correcting excess of initial capitals, add missing accent marks, etc.?

Sorry, I didn't realize you weren't a librarian. Once you have 50 books shelved, you can request librarian status and make those changes yourself. meanwhile, if you link the books in question, I (or any other librarian who sees your response first) can fix those for you.

César Lasso (cesarlasso) | 15 comments Thanks! You see, I'm absolutely inexperienced in Goodreads and managed to contact you after frustrating or strange efforts to improve my experience here.

It won't take me long to shelf 50 books and then I'll request that librarian status. And meanwhile, I'll ask for your help to fix some titles :)
