Predictable answer for me is Sirius, Dumbledore and Fred - they were the three big deaths in my mind. Though losing Lupin and Tonks was pretty devastating too.

For something a bit different, though, I'd save Lily and James - I know the story wouldn't have quite played out the same way but I would have loved to read about Harry having a regular wizard childhood! My heart breaks for him when I think about how awful the first years of his life were.

Fred, Tonks and Bellatrix. Yes I know Bellatrix is bad, but I totally love her style. Fred well no need to explain, it's not the same without two Weasley twins.
And Tonks, also like because of various reasons.
If I could have a forth it would be Dobby, best elf ever and so cute and funny :o)

I don't think Sirius would have wanted that. He'd have wanted to go on to be with James and Lily and then later Lupin. I would save Dobby, Fred and since I can't save Lupin without Tonks, maybe Sirius? Or maybe Cedric or Colin because they were so young when they died, it wasn't fair. Plus Sirius' death was necessary for the story and sadly for Harry to grow as a character. I'd also want to save Snape. I feel so bad for him and it would have been nice to see what would happen with Harry and his relationship after Harry discovered all his secrets. Ughhh, there's so many people I wish I could save! But, honestly, if I really could, I wouldn't have saved any of them because the deaths made the story more realistic, more emotional and deeper.

I wish all the good characters could have been saved but if I had to choose only three then they would have to be Sirius, Snape and Merope. I just think that maybe if she had survived child birth Tom Riddle may not have ended up in the orphanage and may have grown to be a less evil wizard than what he actually became.

Good point. Not killing Merope would have probably prevented Tom from becoming Voldemort, but then we wouldn't have a series, would we? :)
