Another winner! I had been meaning to read this book for so long, and was forever putting it off, expecting it to be a long, and hard, read. It really surprised me that I ended up loving it. Anyone else have time to read it?
Yes. It's wonderful. I agree though, if a friend hadn't recommended it to me I might have never read it. I thought it would be too steeped in religion or too dry. But it was an easy read, if a longer one. I really enjoyed it.
I'm finally reading this and am about three quarters into it. It's certainly not what I expected .... but am not really sure what I expected. I can honestly say that as a modern age woman, these books make me shudder and praise be that I'm in the age and in the part of the world I am. But on the other hand I admire and long for their comradeship.
I know what you mean Sue. I was cringing at how these woman were worked and how difficult their lives were but jealous at the same time because of the bond they had with one another
I still haven't reviewed this one - it's still mulling around in my head! Sometimes it feels like things haven't changed all that much - just different jobs, etc. I liked the ending. It seemed fitting and so much more dignified than what we experience for death and parting in our century.
Anyone else have time to read it?
