NEW BOOK BY J.K. ROWLING!!!!!!!!

i think she said that Harry Potter opened up new territory for her, and she wants to go with it.
Basically, she can write just about anything now, even things that aren't so mainstream, because she already knows people will buy the book...

so apparently i'm really behind on news. i had no idea till a few days ago :P
YAY! I knew about it the day it was announced... I heard it was going to be a mystery novel. Personally, if I were her, I'd go under a pen name, so that I'd know whether people are reading it because of HP, or simply because it sounds good. But then again, she'd loose a bunch of money if she did that.

lol, she's already done so much and made so many changes and breakthroughs. its thanks to her that so many kids are reading, thanks to her that YA authors [like Tamora Pierce] can write longer books. and its also thanks to her that movie producers can get away with splitting a movie into two parts :P
and thats just the tip of the iceberg...
Yes! I noticed that about Tamora Pierce books! Song of the Lioness was originally one book, but she split them so that it would be easier to read

Haven't seen those but that makes me smile :)

Hey, everyone, check out Mugglenet! http://www.mugglenet.com/thecasualvac...
The book is called The Casual Vacancy
Summary thingy:
When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock.
Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.
Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils...Pagford is not what it first seems.
And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?

Because for the longest time, you associated "JK Rowling" with "Harry Potter". It's hard to think that she might actually write different books.
Pottermore is open!!!!

I don't think you can see the nicknames of your friends' friends, which is probably a safety thing, but yeah, that way, you can go, "Oh, I know who you are too!" and send a friend request.
I'm going to guess the lack of messaging is also due to internet safety, although I think there could be ways to have conversations with friends in other Houses on the site. Even if it's just being able to post comments on profiles or something. They can still be moderated somehow, but I guess it's still not as safe as they would like.
I joined just to be Sorted, and then I get Gryffindor. Joy. But I think what I would change - and I think the reason why it's not like this is due to the insane amounts of traffic - is make it more interactive, like make it more like being at Hogwarts, like with classes and homework and whatnot, because that doesn't seem to be there (unless I'm missing something), but again, with the insane amounts of traffic?

Make a new account... And do the sorting hat again!
My favorite is finding stuff in the stories! And potions!

Yes, there is that option, but I answered the questions honestly, and their algorithm sees me as a Gryffindor. (Is it a Ravenclaw thing to want to look at the algorithm?) Although when I'm honest with myself, although I don't want to be in Gryffindor, it makes more sense than Ravenclaw.
"Books! And cleverness! There are more important things." (Although Hermione and I disagree on what exactly those things are.)
I guess...Ravenclaw just seems like a boring house to me. Not as bad as Hufflepuff, though, but they wouldn't let me in Hufflepuff. Seriously. They'd pass. Probably because I'd make them all cry....
Oh, I can't tell you what makes me happiest; it's just a Slytherin feeling. (See? I'm a Slytherin at heart.)
Oh, and it took long enough to get this first account...not going through that again....

Are you dissing the Ravenclaws?!
This "Sorting Hat" is weird. Dani got Ravenclaw, while she always got Gryffindor before. And Iolanthe got Gryffindor, while she is obviously a Hufflepuff at heart. The only explanation for the latter one is that Iolanthe some how got smarter. :D

actually, when i think about it, Ravenclaw suits me more than any of the other houses, because i do kinda like riddles and thinking. its not that i think that learning is the most important thing, but i do think that knowledge is interesting and important... does that make any sense?
lol, i read the notices that come when you get welcomed into each house. they were all really funny
Did you get to read the other houses' notices? I kinda want to. For the Ravenclaw's Gryffindor is nice but way too show-off-y and a bit brainless, Slytherins are not very nice, and Hufflepuffs are always nice and always friendly, but... let's just say, when exam time comes around, you don't have to worry about them raising the curve. :D

Slytherin was more, well, they're okayish, but they cheat a lot...
i think thats the house that Ravenclaw gets along best with...
the one about hufflepuff was teh funniest, and gryffindor being show offs is also a pretty entertaining notion.

question for people in the other houses:
in the common room, what are most the messages?
in Ravenclaw, its all about hints on how to win duels and telling people to go win points.
is it the same in the other houses, or something else?
I'm Ravenclaw and so is Dani. Iolanthe isn't, though... Time to HACK HER ACCOUNT! Haha.
For Gryffindor, it's mostly the same content... but more... forceful feeling. And Brainless. As they say "Brawns and no brain!"

whats your username, Rae?
lol, thats funny so far, that it actually kinda matches the house.
everyone wants to win, but:
Ravenclaw is mostly about the tips,
Gryffindor has the brawn
i wonder about hufflepuff and slytherin...

Yeah, they have many different questions that they shuffle through to make completely different quizzes that are just as telling.

lol, i cant wait for the second book to be open. its a bit annoying that its taking them so long to do everything
But at least they do it well. Otherwise I'd be so annoyed after waiting so long. I went through the first book again to find more things!

Yup. Hagrid's place is loaded with stuff, same with the Christmas scene and the library scenes. The library scenes have a TON of books, with spells sometimes. And Galleons are all over.
So... J. K. Rowling has finally decided to pick up the pen [or quill. or computer keyboard. or whatever it is she writes on] once again and try to write something.
Annoyingly, very little is known about this new book, only that:
1. It is for adults
2. It will be published by 'Little, Brown'
3. It will have NOTHING whatsoever to do with Harry Potter.
Basically, nothing about the genre is known and there is so far no release date that I can find.
Maybe someone else knows more than I do. I only found out about five minutes ago...
What do you think?
Is there any chance that this new book will be respected in its own merits or will it only ever be compared to HP? Will the book be good or will it let down millions of fans who are probably just waiting to pre- order it the moment they can?
Will you buy the book? Are you interested in reading another Rowling novel that does not involve any Boys Who Live?
In short, what are your thoughts on the matter?
