I would also have suggested

..Though it is part fiction based on author's own experience with Arctic convoys but I rate this book very high among WW-II works of fiction.

Good for me Rick - May go for this one
by W.S. Chalmers A mini biog of Admiral Sir Max can be read here should members be interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Kenn...
This is how the current poll stands for the next theme read in July:European Campaign - 22 votes, 34.9%
Russian Campaign - 21 votes, 33.3%
Pacific Campaign - 14 votes, 22.2%
Mediterranean Campaign - 4 votes, 6.3%
Atlantic Ocean Campaign - 1 vote, 1.6%
African Campaign - 0
Maybe if folks are interested and so that those who didn't get the theme they voted for we could run one of these campaigns as a theme read every second month, starting at the top and working down to the African campaign. It could be any book, land, air or sea covering that particular theatre, what do folks think?

Hi Colin, the books for whatever theme month we are in can be about land campaigns, naval campaigns or aviation campaigns as long as the book is specific to the theatre selected. So if the July poll selects the European theatre members can read a book covering a land, an air or a sea battle/campaign/personality/weapon type, etc. The same for each subsequent them month as per the list above. It should give members a wide-ranging selection and if they are not interested in that particular campaign for that month then they don't have to participate.Of course next month is the aviation theme month so folks can read one or as many books as they like on aircraft, air battles, pilots or planes, should be fun eh!
Maybe they will want to consider my book The Me-262 Stoormbird. But my friend Robert F. Dorr's books are also very good. Of course, my buddy Adam Makos' book A Higher Call is noteworthy.
It seems that the poll for the July theme read on a particular campaign is a draw/tie between the European Campaign and the Russian Campaign with 22 votes each.Do folks want me to combine both theatres into one group read in July so members can read any book covering the European land mass or we do as suggested in message 204 above, just read about one campaign per theme read month starting from the top and working down the list?

Happy to go with a combined one or have a play-off between the two with the second placed theatre getting its outing next after July.I have a vote to sell as my preference was the Atlantic and that didn't make the play-offs ;)

Definitely interested, but was wondering when you were planning this for? Have some heavy obligations coming up in other groups, too. Chrissy's books look great, or either of the books relating to Guadalcanal or the Pacific. Will watch for the list to vote on. Thanks for setting this up, Aussie Rick.
Hi Laurel, we are going to start the campaign theme read in July but only do one theatre at a time with a month break in between so people can commit to other reads if they like.
'Aussie Rick' wrote: "Hi Laurel, we are going to start the campaign theme read in July but only do one theatre at a time with a month break in between so people can commit to other reads if they like."That sounds reasonable. I' m sure I can find something I want to read within the parameters you have set up.
I'm sure you will and each theatre theme read can be books covering land, air or sea so it offers a broad coverage of books :)
Another club in England is reading my last book, The Star of Africa, about Hans-Joachim Marseille and the air war in North frica, if anyone is interested.
If folks are happy to try this the following group reads will be every second month (to allow folks to catch up on other reading):July 2013 - European Campaign (books covering any aspect of this campaign: land, air or sea)
September 2013 - Russian Campaign (books covering any aspect of this campaign: land, air or sea)
November 2013 - Pacific Campaign (books covering any aspect of this campaign: land, air or sea)
January 2014 - Mediterranean Campaign (books covering any aspect of this campaign: land, air or sea)
March 2014 - Atlantic Ocean Campaign (books covering any aspect of this campaign: air or sea)
May 2014 - African Campaign (books covering any aspect of this campaign: land, air or sea)
I will send an e-mail out a month before to remind members of the forthcoming group theme.
What do folks think, is it too long between groups reads? Any suggestions?

Perfect for me. I have a lot of reading commitments in other groups, and this should facilitate being able to meet them. I do not really want to leave a group. I love my mysteries and historical fiction as much as my WW2 material and group. Thanks for figuring this out!
Hi Laurel, thanks for your response and to make it easier you really only need to read one book covering the subject during the theme month :)

Works for me! I like them monthly but have been getting bogged down of late so this may be better. It's a great list, AR!

Hi Tom, whatever doesn't fit into the Mediterranean Campaign you can squeeze into Europe if you like? I would tend to place most of those areas in the Med personally but it is a very broad category.
Would anyone in the group be interested in a buddy read of; Roosevelt's Centurions: FDR & the Commanders He Led to Victory in World War II by Joseph E. Persico? I have one member interested in reading and discussing this book, would anyone else be interested in joining him?
If so please let me know and I will set up a thread to discuss this book.
by Joseph E. Persico
No rush Happy as we haven't set a date so we can work around when the book becomes available.I was thinking maybe in August so it's in between the campaign theme reads, what do you think?
I think the CBI would be interesting for this format plus Home Front and War Production as a theme readWomen in general would be cool to..roughly 10 % of the tankers in 1945 were female in the Red Army

I really like the idea of including a thread in the theme reads for "Home Front, War Production, and Women"- leaves tons of room for possibilities! Great suggestion, Jim!

Great suggestions Jim I'm for them all - did you see we have have a home front thread which if you haven't spotted has some good recommendations in.
For those interested we have a buddy read commencing on the 1st of August for the book; Roosevelt's Centurions. Here is a link to the thread for those who wish to participate and discuss the book:http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
In September the next group read for members will be on any book or books covering any aspect of the war on the Eastern Front. The thread will be opened a few days before September:

Are a few members going to get involved in the September group read on any book or books covering any aspect of the fighting on the Eastern Front? I'm looking forward to reading a few books on the Russian Front, just not too sure which ones yet, but these are the main contenders:
by Prit Buttar
by Brian Taylor
by Von HardestyWhat do other members have lined up to read?

I'm looking, but between Amazon and one of my publishers I'm being kept so darned busy promoting my own stuff it's getting harder and harder to find time to read. (About ready to tell them to go . . . oh well, never mind).
