The sound of the screech sent Cecily reeling from her Sleep-drunken state. She hurried to the source of the sound and then realized that it had originated from her house. She immediately thought about her current resident who was staying with her. She nearly freaked out. Pulling her sword from her sheath, which lay hidden under her cloak, she ran at the door and into the house.
Kendal ran to the window and leaped out, landing in a nearby tree. She turned to look at the monster behind her. He too leaped out of the window, but his strong legs only got him to the ground.
"K-mon! You have to fight it!" Kendal shouted, her voice cracked from the effort. Tears ran down her face in ugly rivers. The creature paused for only a moment.
"I cannot." He said, his voice, a terrible rumbling, was accented, as if his mouth had trouble forming words. He ran towards the tree and began to climb. Kendal was too afraid to move, and her muscles tensed up.
Bear, hearing everything, ran from the back door and straight at K-mon. Bear's hackles were up and he was growling angrily. Even though he wasn't nearly as large as K-mon, the large dog leaped and bit at the dark creature's arm, holding on tight.
"Bear!" Kendal cried. "No, he doesn't want you! Go back!" But the dog refused to listen.

Cecily hear the noises coming from upstairs, then they started coming from the outside, so she turned on her heels and bolted back out the door and she ran to where the loud noise was coming from. She ran to the back yard and saw the creature in her yard. She saw Kendal in the Tree and Bear was facing off with the monster who seemed to be after the hiding child. She quickly reacted to the situation by moving swiftly, knocking the creature off of the tree, causing it to fall to the ground. She had no intent to injure Bear, so as the monster was falling, she quickly grabbed onto bear and landed on the ground, ungracefully, but they were unhurt.
Bear struggled against the half-cat human. He didn't want anything to happen to his young, blue companion. He barked and growled, kicking his legs all the while. Kendal was crying and trying to make sense of the situation. Atropos, her sword, was not on her person. Even if she had it she didn't know if she could bring herself to attack K-mon. She had only ever sparred with her merchant friend who taught her. Not only that but K-mon.... Kendal shook her head. Those white-coats were the absolute worst. She raked her mind for a weakness, anything at all.
K-mon turned to face the new threat. His arm was bleeding a bit from Bear's assault. Dark green dripped from the wound. He screeched and rushed toward Cecily. He grabbed her by her calf and lifted her off the ground, shaking her ruthlessly.
"Stop!" Kendal shouted fruitlessly.

Cecily was starting to get shaken up, literally. She used as much concentration as she could, which was a very small amount at that. Her leg began to heat up to the point that it was a scalding hot coal, yet Cecily remained unharmed, besides being extremely dizzy and maybe bruised from the time her hand hit the tree from the monster flailing her around.
Kendal's mind suddenly clicked. "Threr!" She shouted. The creature stopped, his head twitching toward her voice. He turned to Kendal and nodded slowly. "Thank you." He told her in his demented voice. He then turned and ran away, back to where ever he had come from. Kendal slumped against the trunk of the tree, breathing in deeply. Her heart was coming down from its quick run. Bear ran to the yard line and barked at the leaving creature, but stayed on the property. Kendal slowly came out of the protective branches of the tree and wiped her tears away. She couldn't look Tailed-Girl in the eyes, her pride hurt from her show of fear. "Fucking white-coats." She grunted and, with her chin up, stomped back into the house.
Cecily sighed. "What was that all about?" She asked, flopping to the ground from being so dizzy and slightly bruised. "Remind me, that if I ever want to get on a ride that spins me in circles, that I'm allergic to it." She said, holding her head still, trying to make the movement stop.
Kendal stomped angrily into the kitchen and flung open the magical food box, which Tailed-Girl referred to as a fridge, and took out a jar of jam and crackers from the cupboard. Bear was at her heels in a split second and sat down in front of her. Kendal sank to the floor and slammed the jar down onto the floor next to her. She reached up and grabbed a butter knife from the drawer above her. She began angrily spread the jam across each cracker and offered each piece to Bear. Her eyes were cast down and her eyebrows were knit together. She was fuming. She was muttering curse words to herself, molding her anger and her heart in to a hard, disgusting mass.
As Cecily began to regain herself from the massive dizzyness than nearly made her throw up her dinner, she sat up slowly, and then slower still, stood up, then walked into the house, leaning against the door frame, watching the angry Kendal, eat her jam and crackers on her kitchen floor.
After Kendal ran out of crackers she wrapped her arms around Bear as he licked his lips. She glared at the floor, still mumbling and swearing worse than that of an angry sailor. Curses fell out of her mouth faster than any listener could pick them up. Bear seemed fine with it though, he was just glad the strange K-mon was gone, and his Kendal was safe.
Cecily was slightly amused by the string of cursing that she heard coming from such a small person. She was impressed, even she herself hadn't said such sailor words before. She was beginning to respect the knowledge of the language she was speaking.
Kendal started to calm down, but it was obvious she was still pretty upset. Bear was lying down next to her on the linoleum and resting his head on her lap. She stroked his soft ears idly, staring off into the distance. "Sorry, Tail-Girl. I asked you to protect me from the danger, but never told you exactly what you were getting into." She Apologized, still not able to look Cecily in the eyes.
Cecily was a bit confused as to why a monster had come to her house and started chasing around her young charge, and then just as quickly leaving. "Can I ask you some things about what i got myself into?" She asked, just so that she could get everything cleared up.
Kendal paused, obviously hesitant with letting out information. "...Yes." She finally answered. "But I can't tell you everything. Ask away." Her eyes stayed on Bear's fur, studying the intertwining, dark hairs. She waited patiently for Tailed-Girl to ask her something. Kendal's emotions were circling. She was worried about being seen as a monster, or trash. She also didn't want to be turned in. She mentally cursed her own luck. She had been hoping to be escorted to a new, safe home before having to explain the problem. Nothing was ever simple.
"So...." She started. "What was with the giant Shadow beast that was chasing you up the tree in my back yard?" She asked, trying not to pry too much, but she wanted to know why and how it got there.
Kendal didn't look up. "K-mon. That's his name. Well, sort of. He is the White-Coat's tracker, but he also works as an assassin. He was here because of me. The White-Coats want to kill me. He must have followed me somehow."
"Okay,..." She seemed to be taking in the information. "And the white-coats? Why do they want to kill you? What are these White-Coats?" She wasn't trying to be too nosey, but she needed to know at least this.
"They.. made me. But I was... A mistake. And what do you do with mistakes? You erase them." Kendal clutched a lock of fur on Bear's head. Her eyebrows knit together. Whether because she was angry, or holding back tears was unclear.
"Well I don't think that you are a mistake. Why would they ever think that?" She asked, confused, yet she was learning so much about this small person that she had met only a few days ago.
Kendal slowly shook her head. "That is a story for another time. It is unimportant." She had refused to look at Tailed-Girl for fear of her expression, but now she sneaked a quick glance. She was surprised to see that the Tailed-Girl didn't seem to be disgusted at her yet.
There was no such expression on her face. She was actually quite intrigued by this turn of events, but she felt a bit bad for the child, having to deal with all of this BS going on in her life. Cecily really admired her for this. "Well, I won't ask any more questions. You've just barely gotten up and you've probably had more than you wanted."
"It's fine." Kendal assured Tailed-Girl. She didn't add what she was originally which was 'I have dealt with worse,' but didn't want to explain. "I am going to stay up; you, on the other hand, should go get some rest." She relaxed her grip on Bear's fur. There was no way she was going to be able to sleep after being attacked by K-mon.
It took her a moment, but then Cecily had realized just how tired she really was. All the excitement had gotten her all hyped up,by now that it was over her eyelids drooped and she felt like she was read to pass out.
Kendal clawed her way to her seat on Bear's back. The dog then stood up and walked to their bedroom. Kendal wanted nothing more than to lose herself into Alice in Wonderland. At least Alice's story was more magical and less tragic than her own.
Cecily made her way sleepily to her room upstairs and promptly collapsed in her bed, without even changing her clothing. She drifted right into the realm of sleep and dreams as easily as she could have done anything else.
Many hours passed and it was about noon-ish now. Kendal was drawing on a pad of paper, using her sharpies. She had read through the entire book that morning. Bear was lying under Kendal's arm, watching her arm make long, quick strokes on the parchment.
Cecily, having woken up just before noon, decided to get into the shower and clean herself from the night before, and that morning as well. She felt well rested, because she only needed a small amount of sleep to keep her running for a good amount of time, but it always helped to take a shower to wake up a bit more. She made her way to the bathroom and undressed herself, turning on the water and getting under the warm spray of water.
Kendal stopped drawing and went back to her bed. It was still surprising to her how soft the piece of furniture was. Did people always have mattresses? It was a luxury she could get used to. She had finally calmed down completely, and she thought she would take a short nap. Patting the space next to her, she motioned for Bear to lay down next to her.
Cecily showered off and made sure that she scrubbed all of the gross nastiness off of her from the informant that she had to deal with the previous night. After she had finished showering, she turned off the water and got out. She dried herself off and then headed to her room to get into her clothing.
A few more hours passed and Kendal was walking through the city with Tailed-Girl. Kendal as riding Bear as usual, and the two of them were sticking close to their guardian. It was about 3 and people were bustling passed them and chatting loudly. Bear and Kendal, who were used to the quiet whispers of their woods, were a bit nervous around the massive attack of noise.
Cecily looked over at the child. "Are you alright?" she asked her. She realized that this person that she was with probably didn't have much experience with loud noises, having come from the Whispered Woods.
"I'm fine. It just... brings up old memories." The last time Kendal was around such large amounts of noise was while in a cage surrounded by the screams and unintelligible speech, languages created by monsters. The building full of nothing but mistakes. She shook the thought away. "So what's your first move?"
Cecily held out the necklace that she had acquired the night before. "Well, This may or may not have any relation, but we could try and find the place as to where this originated from." She said, showing her the item she was holding.
Kendal nodded. The necklace looked like it would be fore a child. Kendal didn't know who Tailed-Girl was after, but she hoped bounty hunters didn't go after children. "Here, let me have it." Snatching the necklace before Tailed-Girl could reply, Kendal leaned forward over Bear's neck and dangled the wooden carving in front of the dog's nose. "Anything, pal?" She asked.
Bear sniffed the necklace and then the ground. After a moment of hesitation, he bolted in one direction. Kendal quickly wrapped her arms around Bear's neck to hold herself in place. The canine companion dashed through the city, heading following the scent.

Cecily followed the large dog and his companion through the City, she didn't know where the animal was heading, but she certainly believed that he had gotten a trail of something.
The dog ended up back where Tailed-Girl had found the necklace and then began sniffing the spot. After another moment he ran down a few streets, entering a shop now and then. The person who owned the necklace must have done some major shopping or something. Then finally, Bear reached the market district. He stopped and pointed like a trained hound toward the crowd. In the ground was a large, burly man with a scar vertical tracing the length of his neck. Kendal didn't see him immediately and scanned the crowd, searching.
Cecily looked at the way that Bear was pointing She noticed the man and the description that she was given matched perfectly. She watched the target inconspicuously. She wanted to watch his movements and to make sure that no one was to be hurt within the vicinity.
Jin, the target, was in the center of the crowd. He was handing out his goods for others to look at. It seemed that he was selling a variety of things, among them wooden carvings. On his shoulder sat a small creature. The creature had quills across the skin of his back and his nose nudged it's master occasionally. It was a small, porcupine. He smiled somewhat awkwardly at his customers, as if social interaction was an odd experience for him. He had a cart behind him full of strange jars, wooden carvings, ceramic statues, and old china. Oh his back there was an awe inspiring sword that looked like an ancient relic. The sword was well taken care of, which implied he used it well and often.
She observed the person, he seemed to be somewhat socially awkward. He really didn't seem to be much of a threat at the moment, She wanted to actually go and look at the small porcupine on the mans shoulder, it was quite adorable. She shook the thought out of her head. This was no time to be admiring small animals and how cute they are. She was having a battle with in herself abotu what she was going to do. She really didn't know what to make of the situation.
Kendal glanced up at Tailed-Girl. She seemed to be analyzing something. "What are you looking at Tailed-Girl? I can't separate all of the people there... There are so many of them." The gathering reminded her of ants, gathering around a previously dropped scrap of food.
Cecily patted Bear on the head, Thanking him for his good work. She wanted to analyze her target more, before starting the hunting, and she wanted to research A bit about the company that she was hired by. She wanted to know what they were up to before anything else happened in the company. She shook her head. "It's nothing, Kendal." She told her, then she looked over at Bear. "Thank you for doing such a good job, Bear." She said, praising him. She was going to follow the man after he was ready to leave. Maybe she could find at least the place that he was staying at.
"Nooo, Tailed-Girl! That's no fun! Which one?" Kendal pouted, as if Tailed-Girl was in on a joke and she wasn't willing to share it with her. She had trouble seeing into the center of the crowd, as she was significantly shorter than Tailed-Girl. Even while sitting on Bear, who was the size of a great dane, Kendal had a hard time looking over people's heads. She would have been able to see fine if she stood on Bear's back, but that was something she refused to do to her best friend.
She sighed, "Are you sure that you want to see?" She asked her. The man was a bit frightening, but she thought that the child might move her focus to the animal on his shoulder, it WAS pretty cute. "So you ind me lifting you up if you want to see?" Cecily asked Kendal.
Kendal bounced a bit excitedly from Bear's back. "Let me see! Let me see!" She slid off of Bear and rushed over to Tailed-Girl, reaching her arms up. She wanted to be in on this 'secret' and was more excited than one would usually be in such a situation.
Cecily smiled at the child's eagerness. "Okay." She said and then lifted her up. She turned so that Kendal was able to look right at him as she held her up. "Do you see him?" She asked, making sure that she was very careful not to loose her grip.
Kendal pouted, slightly frustrated. "I see everyone now, Tailed-Girl, but I wasn't there when you got his description. I don't who or what I am looking fo..." But she stopped as she saw him. She tried to wriggle free, struggling against Cecily. "Down! Down! Down!" She yelled, still kicking her legs. "Bear!" She called, and her dog companion glanced up at her. "Fetch!" And Kendal pointed at the man with the scar. Bear ran into the crowd with out a second of hesitation. He clenched onto the man's pant leg and began to tug him toward Cecily and a struggling Kendal. The man was shouting something at the dog, but they were too far to catch what was being said.
Cecily didn't know what to make of the situation. Maybe the man was after her and she wanted to get away, but then she sent bear after him. Kendal was struggling against her grip and eventually she lost her grip and followed the girl who had taken off after the dog. "Kendal?! Why are you doing this?"
Her answer can as a happy cry. "Jin!" She leaped up and was caught by the strange man, who smiled down at the blue child as if she were his. "Kendal! How had you been, little smurf!"
Kendal pouted at the name. "I'm not a smurf!" Jin laughed in response.
"I thought that this was Bear, but I wasn't sure until you can after him. Why have you left the woods?" Kendal turned to Tailed-Girl and waved for her to come closer. "Tailed-Girl brought me here. After a mix up in one of her bounty hunts the living trees became active once more. She's escorting me to a new forest. Oh!" She said an bounce excitedly. "And she has a whole box of sharpies!"
Jin looked up and say a woman with cat ears and a cat tail. She seemed confused about something. He smiled an waved. "Oi! Stranger! Thank you for taking care of my Kendal! Why don't you come over here and say hello?"

"K-mon.." Kendal gasped, her heart sinking. Her breathing increased as fear ran through her bones. Her hands began to shake and tears weld up in her eyes. She turned and bolted up the stairs, as fast as her pixie like speed would allow. Her body convulsed in pure fright as she heard K-mon give out a terrible screech before he chased after her.
