Are the Freaks zombies?

Some people keep saying the freaks are zombies... I didn't really picture them as zombies, i thought they were like some kind of monsters but not necessarily zombies.

i did not think they were zombies i thought they were very tall creatures that looked like the black version of spider man when hes evil with long claws and more dirty and raggedy with cuts and huge open gashes

They're not zombies, but they're basically the equivalent to zombie
