Does a book need an ISBN to be added?

I'm attempting to figure out how to add a self-published book and would like to know if an ISBN is required for listing in Goodreads.

No books can be added without isbn's. Although isbn is required for a giveaway.

So, probably asked a million times, here its is: is there an FAQ or best practices document for librarians who are adding books forthe first time. I have a few hundred booksthat have clearly not been cataloged in goodreads, e.g. An incredible book of morrow's transcripts from 'see it now', and a larger number of books where there is no images of the book jacket.
